Star-Ledger - The Randy Moss to Green Bay talk is expected to return in earnest this weekend. The trade could happen some time Saturday or Sunday, especially if the Packers pass on a wide receiver in the first round.

Some people feel the deal already is done, but both teams do not want to lose leverage in the draft by announcing it now.

Should be fun...but remember this time last year when some "insiders" said Green Bay had a deal with N.O. to move up and draft Bush...

Agreed, it seems like a lot of wild rumors fly around this time, but if a deal was indeed struck, it would make sense to hold off on announcing it.

This would make sense of the talk about Favre knowing for sure that Moss will be a Packer by the time the season begins.

If this is true, we obviously don't need to draft a WR to play this season and frees us up to address RB, DB, S and/or TE in the draft.

Oh, and I doubt the LJ deal will happen. It just doesn't feel like a TT move. If we do add Moss, we probably won't want to tie up more cap space on offense with huge money to a RB.

While I hate (no, detest...) the idea of building to 'win now', if Moss has his head on straight this is a sick offense.

1st and 4th for Johnson
2nd and 3rd for Moss

I don't think you'll see LJ as a Packer, but I still think you'll see moss in Green and Gold. He's not going back to Oakland, and barring a first round selection of a WR, I think Moss will be here.

won't have to give up nearly that much to get Moss and I question whether the Packers can afford both Johnson and Moss. Personally, I'd rather go after AP than Johnson....

AP is a stud, but is he worth sacraficing the rest of your draft? I think his injury risk is too high for such a manuever. This team has too many holes and we really need to create some depth by acquiring as many picks as possible, not trading them away.

That said, I would trade a pick for Moss, but I think he can be had later in the summer after the Raiders cut him.

I think if Davis is privately saying he wants a 1st (which he won't get), he won't accept anything less than a 2nd, and more likely a 2nd and 3rd.

I think the Al Davis demanding a first rumor has been sitting around from the very beginning, but in reality everyone knows the terms won't be anywhere near that. I would think the Raiders have come off that , but ot be honest, I believe this deal has been talked about mroe through the back channels (through Moss' agent) than between the organizations. I don't think there's enough of a market for Al to demand that high of compensation.

I don't think the Packers would bite on a 2nd and 3rd (nor would I want them to...I'd rather take Sidney rice in the Second and a DB, like Scott, or Gattis in the 3rd)...hell, I dont' think they'd bite on a 2nd. I keep reading that Moss is refusing to go back, so I wouldn't rule out the possibility that he gets released down the road. If moss isn't traded on draft day, I'd expect some noise coming from his agent in the media. I'll be more shocked to see Randy in an Oakland uniform next year than see Adrian Peterson on the Packers.

Hopefully this is a case of calling their bluff, after the Raiders decided they can not afford to pass up on Calvin Johnson.

We should be able to afford both LJ and Moss. I personally think that you will see Moss take a fairly decent pay cut.

Also, I think that the LJ deal would be more important than Moss since I see us as a running team once Favre retires, which would probably be at seasons end.


If we trade for LJ we could structure things for this season (most likely his only season with Favre) to work better under the cap...

Then when Favre and his huge cap number are gone, we are back in business.


Do I think any of this is really possible? Yes, but extremely unlikely.

Right, he HAS to restructure for the Packers to take him on, but I'm just saying he isn't going to take chump change - our best bet would be to back load if we do get LJ.

I don't know how much we'll save on this years cap, I would guess maybe 4 million? We'll take a few more cap hits in 08 and 09 on KGB...I think

It might be TT trying to see if he can trade down to pick up a pick or more that he can then trade to the Raiders for Moss?

A 2nd and a 3rd for a player who clearly is on the downside of his career and isn't mentally with the team is WAAAAY too much.

I'm guessing the "fair" trade is a 3rd - 5th rounder for him, depending on whether Davis or TT blinks first.

TT keeps referencing that the real improvement on the team will come from the continued development from the younger players, and I completely believe him. Even though it is really fun to speculate, I'd be shocked if there was a trade for a veteran player (unless it involves a current Packers vet, which is extremely rare) .

He's just better off making his choices, improving the team's talent pool, and hoping that more than 1 or 2 of them develop into blue chip players. It worked for him in Seattle...well, mostly after he left, but still...
