Packers Turned Down Cleveland Trade Proposal for #16
Peter King has a story about how Cleveland got Quinn. We would not have had a first rounder this year but would have had what could be a very high extra first next year and moved up quite a bit in rounds 2, 3 and 4 this year.
Savage got a nibble from Green Bay at 16. Cleveland offered its first-round pick in 2008, and offered to flip picks with the Packers in rounds two, three and four. "I thought it was going to work,'' Savage said. "But they thought about it, called back and said no.''

Not sure I would have done it. No first round pick this year...I am pretty sure a couple teams were thinking about Harrell in the late 1st early 2nd round.
If we did they trade we could have drafted say Sidney Rice or Jarrett in the 2nd and then waited until next year to have two first round picks.
I can't believe all the Favre lovers and TT haters would like this, but anything to hate on TT.

The stupid part is Savage basically says we thought about it, then called back and said "no".
Um, Ted there is such a thing as a counter offer. Please don't tell me Jerry Jones was the only one smart enough to make a counter offer to get that future 1st and this year's second while keeping their own 2nd as well.

Had we made this deal...we would have 2 1's next year....and could deal for immediate help in Michael Turner this year by dealing our 1 next year.
Plus being at the top of each of rounds 2, 3, 4 Thompson would have had even MORE value to do his trading down if he wanted.
WOW!
I grant you...Harrell might be ok, but with all the options on the table I don't think we would have been that much WORSE without him and WITH one of the other options.
One thing about Ted....there is no agressiveness in him. (no free agent help for key areas, no trades outside of the draft, and won't trade up to get someone he might be interested in).
Just frustrating! That's all.

the thing that's bad about not making the deal is that basically TT picked harrell to be a starter for next year. he's going to be a back-up this year. We could have used cleveland's pick next year to draft a defensive tackle to start just like hawk started. and wit h harrell's injury history, i would much arather have cleveland's #1 pick next year than an injured harrell.

From Kings article:
Savage offered Jones second- and third-round picks. Jones said no. End of call. Jones called back and asked for Cleveland's first-rounder in 2008, and Savage said he'd consider doing it -- but without adding anything else this year. Jones said no; he had to have a high pick this year. End of call.
"Now [the Cowboys] were on the clock, and I figured, 'This is a guy we really want,''' said Savage. "We've got to make our best offer now.''
Sort of. With the minutes ticking by, Savage offered next year's first-round and this year's third-round picks to Dallas. Nope, said Jones. It'll take next year's one and this year's two. Savage said he'd call right back.
Meanwhile, Jones told the Cowboys man at the draft in New York to write down the name of Purdue defensive end Anthony Spencer on a card and get it ready to turn in. "We had four guys very close in value right there,'' Jones said. (One other candidate there, I learned, was LSU wideout Dwayne Bowe.) "And I was determined that we would get one of them, unless we could get that Cleveland pick next year.''
With two minutes left in the period, Savage called. "We'll do it,'' he said. "Our two this year and next year's one.''
"Deal,'' Jones said.
