PJ Pope Out/Surgery

Another RB injury victim...

Green Bay - Running back P.J. Pope is the latest of the Green Bay Packers' running group to suffer to be lost for several weeks due to a knee injury.

Pope was injured during the team's intrasquad scrimmage Saturday and did not return. Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Monday that Pope underwent arthroscopic surgery and that the severity of the injury wasn't known or the length of time he would be out.

However, the surgery puts Pope out at least a couple of weeks, limiting his opportunity to fight for a roster spot. On the first day of camp, Vernand Morency injured his right knee and was lost for two to four weeks.

Second-round pick Brandon Jackson has been running with the No. 1 offense since Morency went down and continues to get the bulk of the repetitions. But veteran Noah Herron, who had a solid scrimmage and seventh-round pick DeShawn Wynn, are getting a considerable amount of carries.

Wynn has been coming on strong since losing 10 pounds right before the start of camp because of a stomach virus. McCarthy said it's clear his talent is considerably better than what a player drafted in his position should be.

In addition to Herron and Wynn, rookie free agent Corey White continues to receive a lot of snaps. White is more of a short-yardage, power back than the other two.

He wasn't going to get any playing time anyway

Actually they were very high on him, and was someone they were thinking could be a factor. Probably makes Herron a lock as the 3rd string back.

if he can stay healthy. From a numbers stand point he looks like a steal where they drafted him, BUt there are issues. I would like him to unseat Noah.

It seems like everyday I read in the Journal Sentinel that DeShawn Wynn missed at least one practice that day due to illness or injury.
