OT: Wisconsin Football Thread

Post#1 » by Kerb Hohl » Thu Aug 16, 2007 9:17 pm

Silly me, I didn't know there was an NCAA discussion. Still think we should have a Wisconsin Football thread.

I'll add my predictions/Badger thoughts as we go here. Just wanted to get one of these started. With the Brewers playing like 5th graders we need all the extra topics to discuss that we can get.

Conf champs everyone?
Heisman? All-Americans?
National Champs?
Sleepers?

Let's hear 'em. Mine will be coming later.

16 returning starters. I'm not sold on QB though. Tyler had 2 good games at the end of the season last year but one was against Buffalo. And he's not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed.

Hard to equal or beat last year but they could do it, or they could go 8-4.

The thing that scares me about Tyler is that he doesn't have the zip on his medium range passes and can't throw the long pass too well (vs. Iowa Luke Swann went up and got all of his deep passes). What happens when we need him to take over the game when our rush offense decides to shut down against one of the better teams for a game or two like it does every year.

Over/Win Regular Season wins: 9.5

Looking at the schedule its a tough call...

Wins: WSU, @UNLV, Citadel, Iowa, Michigan State, Northern Illinois, Indiana (7)

Should win: @Illinois, @Minnesota

Tough: @Penn State, Michigan, @Ohio State

I can see 10, but if UW blows one against a team they should beat, its almost a for sure under. Tough call as I said.

It looks very likely that Clay won't play. That is too bad. They moved four star freshman safety Quincy Landingham to HB recently since we only have three scholarship backs. That position is actually my biggest concern because of the lack of depth.

I'm not worried about the QB situation because whoever wins will have beaten out another guy that can play. I was very high on Evridge after he transferred, but Donovan played very well on the road at Iowa last year. His mobility could really bring a new dimension to Chryst's offense.

Our defense is going to devour people provided the two new starting safeties play well and our nickel and dime backs play well when we face the spread.

Where are you hearing that Clay wont play Ayt. I think he will end up being eligible but most likely will redshirt. Im pretty sure that what you meant but just to make sure. Im kind of surprised that Landingham was moved. I was hoping he would show somethign at Safety but I guess they see more hope at the HB posistion.

Our defense could end up being Top 15-20 nationally. As long as our offense doenst have lots of turnovers I smell the Roses

Him moving doesn't sound like it was any blow to this years team.In the paper they said Quincy was third string at safety and likely wouldn't see the field this year on defense.

Then again, doubt he plays at RB either unless a serious injury bug hit

From the sounds of it Evridge has been outperforming Donovan in practice. More consistency and less INT's.

I'm personally hoping Evridge wins the job.

One advantage Evridge has is he's a junior. If he's any good we get two years out of him.

No, I'm thinking he won't be academically eligible.

they did some pretty crazy stuff to get booker eligible, i'd be surprised to see them just let clay slide through. who knows though, maybe brett is tough on academics as well. :-?

The problem isn't with the UW, it's with his HS test scores, the NCAA scholarship standards, and the Clearinghouse.

Additionally, Bret has been pretty lenient on Cooper.

Rumor is that Clay made the grades (he needed an A and a B), but that is just a rumor.

Well I just read that he qualified, so apparently the rumors were true. I suppose I should have looked, having been gone all evening, before posting.

Hey guys...talked to my roommate who is on the team in the past few days. Not sure if these 2 things are public but in our very short talks he told me two things.

1. Clay just arrived for his first day on Friday I believe...he is just a bit overweight at 260 lbs. Didn't really get an answer if he was ineligible or not...I don't think my roommate knew.

2. The starter in Donovan/Evridge will be announced this coming Wednesday...I think I heard(can't remember if it was from him or not) that Evridge has looked more impressive in camp.

This thread only means I'll be on this board now, so no matter how hard you try, you won't get rid of me.

Sorry

I figured the Clay being eligible may have been in the paper but wasn't sure if the weight issue was.

I don't get the paper here and I mostly just check national outlets such as SI, ESPN, etc. so sometimes I miss a few of those things.

They'll win 10 or 11. Lose one or both of at OSU/PSU, run the table at home. They should be just as good on offense this year with Hill healthy (and improved with lower body fat/better weight distribution), Beckum in his 2nd year at TE, and a lot more WR options. Key for the QB will be limiting TO's.

The D will be outstanding. Shaughnessy and Cooper are now two years removed from surgeries, Hodge in the middle will be an upgrade over Zalewski. Have to replace both safeties.

This team won't disappoint.
