Packers finished with receiver Ferguson
Robert Ferguson's career as a Green Bay Packer is over.

Coach Mike McCarthy said after practice tonight the team is talking with several teams about a possible trade, but even if one is not worked out, Ferguson will not play for the Packers again.

"We've decided to go in another direction," McCarthy said.

McCarthy said he met with Ferguson about 5 p.m. to inform him of his decision.

The guy had some talent, it just never seemed like he had his head on straight......

Glad to see some younger guys will get a chance to prove themselves because we already knew what ferguson brought to the table. Maybe one of the young guys like Holliday / Jones will be able to make a difference that Robert never did.

I like what i saw out of Jones in game 1, even though it was against the 2nd / 3rd string Steelers D.

We going for trade or just cutting him? Cause I moved him down the depth charts on Madden 08. I even had him put on the trading block before I went to work. Now he is on the block. Hope we get some body useful in return.

Good.

the couple of practices that I have attended this year I kept seeing him talking to the younger players, coaching them on the side lines.

I wanted to run up to them and pull them away from him....but then I choose to stay where I was :D

  Finally this bum is gone. Johnny, we are trying to trade him, but if we can't get anything we like for him, we'll just release him. Good bye fergie, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Ouch, I'd almost forgot that. At least it's one more Mike Sherman player out the door.

I think the guy tried......

But as noted in the thread, he just wasn't very bright and never really caught on to what was going on around him both on the field and off.

Another wasted high draft pick with Mike Sherman.....at least based on what he produced for us over five-years.

I'm willing to bet Houston gives him a shot. It's his hometown and Mike Sherman is down there, since Sherman only knows about football players that played for the Packers and/or he drafted them, well Fergie is going to get to join the club in Texas that is the ex-Packers

Good riddance Ferg.

Im actually suprized he was able to stick around on the roster as long as he did.He was on the team for awhile wasnt he a rookie in like 2001? I'll to look it up I guess.I remember he did show some nice flashes in 2002 and 2003 but he was very inconsistient and just not that good of a player.

Exactly. I always thought he was going to breakout at any given point and he showed flashes of being a talented WR. It just never happened. Very inconsistent and then injuries hindered him as well. Unfortunately he ended up being a disappointing pick for the Pack. It didn't help him that the guy Sherman passed on, Chris Chambers, has been a very productive NFL WR.

Robert Ferguson, along with Jamal Reynolds was a Wolf pick. Wolf has even expressed great regret about passing on Chambers for Ferguson.

That is correct. Sherman was just the coach in 2001. My mistake.
