James Jones 16, Randy Moss 0
Moss hasn't even practiced in weeks. I'm sure he'll "heal" for the regular season but I'm glad we didn't get this turd.

I think it is a good question to ask, considering so many Thompson-haters crucified him for not outbidding New England's 4th rounder to land Randy Moss. If it would have taken the Pack's 3rd round pick that they spent on James Jones to get Moss - who would you rather have now, James Jones or Randy Moss?
Considering it's today's 30-yr old, bad hammy Moss we are talking about, not magically travelling back in time to catch him for all those years when he was legitimately elite, I'd take James Jones without a second's hesitation.

Thompson doesn't dive into free agency much but when he does his record is better then most....of guys who received bigger money..Woodson and Pickett have been a big success while Manuel a bust.....free agency rarely turns out and Green Bay is not a great draw....i have always bought into the philosopjy of building your foundation through the draft...Moss is a classless dog, I am glad he is not here he should have some success with Brady and Belichek but in the Green Bay situation it would have turned ugly....he is cancer.....now I would not have minded GB going hard after Wes Woelker....he will have a bigger impact with the Patriots then Moss will when all is said and done.

Some will argue that it's preseason, Moss is a vet, it's no big deal, he'll be well rested for the regular season. And with some players I'd say that's fine. But Moss has always been a turd. Now he's an old turd. He'll have some success this year with the team that's around him but I'll take a hard working rookie with upside over a turd.

Moss a "turd"?-whatever. He sure made the packers DBs look like sheeet plenty of times. To risk a 4th on a guy that still runs sub-4.3 seemed like a gamble worth the taking. I probably wouldn't had been pro-trade, but for the fact Favre was so behind it. Favre is far more in tune to the situation than any of the so-called experts on this board-that's good enough for me.
Last time I checked peseason games/stats don't count. I don't think there are TT "haters" -maybe people that question a pick like Harrell when your deepest at DT and he has an injury history (that's reasonable)? A team that is loaded with 4.5+/40 WRs looking for someone who can get seperation for litte cost (4th rounder)-that's reasonable?
Last time I checked Ted has not had one winning season in GB to date. I'm encouraged by many of his moves, and still question some others. The Raiders were 4-0 last year in pre-season and look what happened. I think it is a little premature to go patting anyone on the back just yet. Too many quick knee jerk reactions on both sides, let's see this playout before making these kinds of evaluations.

While I do agree you can go against some of TT's individual moves, this last paragraph really doesn't hold much water with me. Sherman left this team in absolute SHAMBLES. He was easily the worst GM in the NFL during his tenure. Blown draft picks, terrible long term contracts, etc. To me, TT has done a DAMN good job turning this team from a no-talent bloated contract team to a young, talented team with cap space. Granted, there are still holes, but he has been 2 billion times better than Sherman. This team is on track to be back in the playoffs either this year or next, and will have the cap room to add playmakers moving forward. I am glad he did not overpay for mediocre talent this FA period.
Regarding Moss, we will wait for the season to see who is right on that. I think it's safe to assume that if he cannot peform in NE with Tom Brady, he SURE AS HELL wouldn't have performed here with Favre.
We will wait and see.

I agree with you, but in this case I'd be shocked if James Jones had anywhere near the season (or career, for that matter) of Moss. That's what is so difficult about this situation--Moss could be the best WR in football again, or maybe he'll implode that team.
I'm definitely a gambler and was very much in favor of getting him for the sake of this year's potential--if he was on, we could've legitimately challenged for the NFC crown. But I also understand the reasons against, and it's guys like Jones who I'm happy to see produce for us. I just have to reconcile myself to the "we'll be there next year" mentality.

I'm not saying Jones will ever be as good as Moss was. But right now I'll take a younger, cheaper guy with potential over an older, more expensive cancer. I don't blame NE for giving him a shot, they are going for it this year. We aren't.
I don't like all of the things TT has done. Hell, is there any GM in any sport that does things that the fans agree with 100% of the time?

I guess my main thing is, RIGHT NOW, is anyone concerned about the WR position on this team? I am not. When Robinson is back we have:
DD
Jennings
Jones
Robinson
Who isn't happy with that?
And like I said, we'll wait for the season to play out on Moss. I wanted him as well, but I think right now we're not hurting at the position.

We're great at WR. A Pro-Bowl target in Driver and two young good WRs in Jennings and Jones. Has Martin done anything to make you think he isn't a capable 4th? Even if Koren never steps on the field this year, we're not hurting at the position. If he does happen to come back, it's going to be a serious strength.

Couple things with this one...
First of all, we're deep with what exactly at DT? Average talent? I like that we have five guys we can trot out there, but there isn't a Marcus Stroud, John Henderson, Tommie Harris, Sean Rogers, Kevin Williams, etc. among them. Just because we're deep there doesn't mean we didn't need a serious upgrade in talent. Harrell may never be on that level. It's way to early to make any determination on that front. But the fact that Thompson took Harrell over talents like Jarvis Moss, Michael Griffin and Reggie Nelson (to say nothing of the fact he turned down multiple trade down offers) makes one believe he thinks Harrell could one day be at that level.
Second, Greg Jennings ran a 4.41 at the NFL combine. Bernard Berrian, a former track guy and one of the best deep threats in the NFL, ran a 4.47. If the 40 yard dash means anything in relation to being a deep threat (it really doesn't), then Jennings fills that void. His yards per catch (and his 40 yard dash if it means something to you or anyone else) should illustrate that.

Well, obviously Mike Dunleavy when he ran the Bucks. But other than that, no.
And you are right: the younger, cheaper guy who may pan out is what this team needs. In all honesty, I am thrilled that he seems to have some kind of connection with Rodgers, much like Favre and Sharpe had in their early years. They just seemed to find each other, and that's what Jones and Rodgers were doing in the Jags game.

So you are saying that Harrell-who is has a reputation coming out of college as a one dimensional "big body-run stuffer" is going to be a dynamic Pro Bowl DT in the form of a Kevil Williams? More likely looking at a Gerard Warren-Casey Hampton- type with more injury history coming into the NFL. Since we are making predictions based on three preseason games -let's go off of Harrell so far-he has been severely outplayed by Jolly (his comparison coming out) is games and in practice. A GB reporter Mike Clemens (who has watched EVERY practice) has reported that the Coaches aren't real happy with him and that Jolly is lights out in comparison.
I'm not saying that Ted is an idiot because he took Harrell-BUT certainly you can't blame people for questioning that move-I guess you are because you keep coming back to his defense. The fact is :#1 not a priority need #2 VAST injury history on a guy who will now compete against bigger/faster/stronger NFL guys #3 passing up some very good prospects at positions we are weak at. SO I question the move as do many others. You don't-good for you. END OF STORY- time will tell.
Jennings actually ran a 4.42 link http://www.thehogs.net/Draft/combine/20 ... sults1.php on a very fast track that the much bigger Chad Jackson ran a 4.32. I stand corrected though -I said earlier 4.5+ guys and you caught me with a .08 violation-shame on me. Obviously the 40 time is not the deciding factor, but a commonly over used bench mark to demonstrate as much. The thing that Jennings lack (a better bench mark) is the strength and size to leap or snag the deep balls -like say a Javon Walker, Andre Johnson, Roy Williams, Chad Johnson, T. Owens, etc. I think we have two good looking receiver prospects in Jennings and Jones. With this very possibly being the last year for legendary Brett Favre (the best GB QB all of us on this board will probably see in our lifetime) I would have liked to see them sacrifice a 4th rounder for a shot at getting a motivated 6'4" 210 Moss(who timed 4.29 by the way in a workout for the Pack/Pats). I know that some of the ULTRA conservative, beer belly, blue collar, farm land, foam cheese head wearing, Packer fans just cringe

Bottom line -it's all opinion and conjecture. If we all shared the same ones this board would get pretty dull. I know you guys love the Pack and in the end we're all on the same side. For whatever reason we have all chosen this team as a way to distract us from our daily grind. Even though we don't $ benefit (maybe Mickey does) from their success or have any personal relationship to any of the players. Pretty crazy when you stop and think about it.

No he's not. Other than having a few great years playing in Minnesota, he is nothing special unless he can prove that he can become a great WR once again. But he is not by any means arguably the best or most talented WR to play the game.
