Korey Hall named starter

Post#1 » by ReasonablySober » Wed Aug 29, 2007 3:57 pm

No real surprise.

Good for him. I know he was disappointed that he wasn't drafted to play linebacker, but being able to not only make the switch, not only to make the team but to actually start at his new position is very impressive.

Korey Hall, a sixth-round pick from Boise State, has won the fullback job.

"(Hall) has established himself as the starter," McCarthy said. "I thought Brandon (Miree) did a lot of good things last year but because of his injuries he hasn't returned to that form. I'm hoping Brandon will be physically able to go through this game."

Miree missed 13 practices and two exhibition games with a stinger. If rookie free agent Corey White proves able to play fullback, Miree would be expendable.

One thing I guess I haven't paid attention to or heard much about is can he catch? I always remember Henderson catching those little passes out in the flats from Favre and making a crucial first down but I really don't remember seeing him do something similar even once this preseason. Did I miss any plays like that?

I hope he can block. Jackson's big weakness right now is picking up the blitz. Our fullback better be able to do it.

My guess is with him being a three year starter at linebacker in college they aren't putting him back there for his running ability or hands. He's physical. I'm sure he'll take his lumps blocking but I think he could be a fine blocker down the line.

I hope they cut Miree and keep White. Its always nice to have a combo RB/FB as long as he can block ok.
