Packers/Giants Pregame Talk

Post#1 » by MickeyDavis » Wed Sep 12, 2007 1:33 pm

This game worries me, it's definititely a trap game. Giants hit hard by injuries, lost their starting QB and RB, their defense was horrible against Dallas. But it's also their home opener and it's not like we were a great team against the Eagles.

The Giants run the same defensive scheme as the Eagles. The Eagles blitzed a lot very early and then not much at all after that, they didn't have to. Our line HAS to do a better job of protecting Brett. Jennings will be back and that will help. Morency will play, although I don't anticipate a while lot of snaps. Wynn showed a few good moves, maybe he'll get a few more snaps. Jackson has to step up or he'll be third string.

The Pillsbury Throw Boy is an unknown.

Lorenzen is about as mobile as a lamppost. Without Jacobs as a safety valve, I expect a heavy dose of blitzing by the LB's in this game, especially Hawk. I'd be willing to let Lorenzen beat us deep a couple times and prove he can do it before I'd call off the blitz. I'll say GB's D gets 4 or more sacks on Sunday.

That said, I agree it's a trap game. Road games, no matter where they are, are tough in the NFL. Giants have talent at the WR/TE positions, so our coverage will have to be there (looking at you Poppinga and Bigby).

I do think our D will be the difference, and we win the game.

I bet tho if Lorenzen does start and stink it up they will give it a shot with Eli. (Unless its already a blow out though not likely with our offense)

I thought Jackson looked very good when he actually got something resembling blocking, MD. He also looked good in the open field on receptions.

I don't see us losing this game. The Giants D is terrible. RW McQuarters is a starting CB for them.

I also don't think Eli will play. They may have weapons, but Lorenzen isn't going to be able to find them all that often against our rush and we have the CB's to cover them. Shockey could hurt us, but only if Poppinga is on him and if Lorenzen is smart enough to find him.

This is tough, I certainly expect the Pack to win this week playing against a pretty horrible defense, but I just don't see the offense playing much better than they did last week unless they fixed every single thing that went wrong against Philadelphia in a week.

Someone needs to make some plays on ST.

The defense will play great and needs to control the game.

Plax does scare me a bit.

I'm starting to think out loud now...

Ok I know it may sound cocky but I think we will whoop them. I do think we have our own issues but our Defense is going to dominate the Giants. First off, Harris will shut down Plaxico because he always shuts down the opposing number one. Second of all, our other corner, Woodson, he's pretty good too. Our linebackers and D Linemen will shut down any running game and I agree, look for at least 4 sacks in this game if not more. Our special teams should be good again. And come on, Dallas ran rough shod over the G Men last week without one of their best two wideouts. Our O Line has problems sure but we had all rookie RB's and fullbacks, and young interior linemen along with one who had leg problems. They are going to get better as the year goes on and I fully expect them to get 100 yards rushing at least and double their output on the ground this game. If Jennings is healthy, that will really help since the Giants won't be able to stack the box. Plus, in case you guys forgot, the Giants had the 5th worst defense last year. Look for us to win the turnover margin 3-1 or 4-2 and for a healthy 14+ point win. You heard it here first folks. Its a blow out win on the road. If I am wrong, I will eat my words, but am I ever wrong, haha? Nah I didn't think so.

Oh yeah, I thought the Badgers would kill UNLV too, haha. So take everything I just said with a grain of salt.

Ward actually looked pretty good for them last week, but going up against our front 7 I am not too worried about this.

The only way we lose is if the winning goes to young guys heads.

Just saw that Manning will start, that really blows.I certainly think we can still win,but now i see it more of a tossup if Manning is close to 100%.Keys for me

1.Prevent the big play on defense. That was one thing that wasn't talked about much in the win vs the Eagles,we didn't give up any really long plays. With the talent on our defense,if the Packers can make the Giants have to put together 7-8-9-10 play drives,i like our chances to eventually get a stop and prevent many touchdowns.

2.The front four getting pressure.I'd prefer not having to blitz Manning much and limit those long plays.

3.Any running game at all will be nice. That crowd will be loud if the game stays close, staying out of many 3 and long situations will be huge in helping prevent mistakes.

4.The incredibly obvious, turnovers.History shows, the odds strongly favor the winning team will win the turnover battle.

This is really the big key. I would even say more important then turnovers to an extent. It is going to be tough sustaining long drives against our D. Especially with a banged up QB, and having your back up running back. Even if we have a couple of turnovers I feel confident and holding the giants to field goals. Our team isn't the type of team that can put up a lot of points in a hurry. If we allow the big play it will be tough for us to win.

I say one thing we need to use is the hurry up offense. Last week, the Pack was waiting until the end of the clock to start plays and that really let the eagles get into position before the play started. We need to get them off balance and score a quick touchdown.

I don't know if a hurry up offense would work well with the inexperienced offensive players the Packers have.

The Packers have the first two or so drives scripted anyways so they know what to expect. It also worked pretty good in the preseason.

Well yeah, but most of the defenses that the Packers did that with were mostly 2nd string guys and it's still preseason.

Even when the Packers huddle up you see a lot of miscommunication between Favre and the receivers.

I'm really excited for the game tomorrow.

Favre and company had a great no huddle drive against #1's in the preseason. I'm hoping we see more of that throughout the season.

The only hope the offense has with its injuries is if it can keep the Giant's defense guessing and/or unable to substitute. Or our D will need a few touchdowns of their own.

I'm not as worried about this game.....I think we've got a dominant D.....those type of teams can take care of business unless they are facing the 1991-95 Cowboys offense.

But I'll admit to being deflated if we lose.......right now the Packers to me are the team in the State that has the best shot at making the playoffs and causing some damage in them.

This is one of those games so unremarkable that if you aren't a diehard fan for either team you won't even know it will happen. My boring prediction: The team with less turnovers win.
