In a national conference call Wednesday, Favre was asked whether the success of the Packers this season would affect his decision to play on for a couple more years.

In no uncertain terms, he said yes.

"If I play at a high enough level and we, meaning this team and organization, come close or get into the playoffs, have some success, but are just a little bit away, they still feel like I can play, want to pay me what they're paying me to lead this team, and I still felt like I have it left, yes, I see no reasons why (not)," Favre said.

Lets just **** trade Rodgers now.

thats a hell of a qualifier, if im still talented, if im still healthy, if this team becomes a contender, if they are willing to pay me.

lets not read too much into this, of course if brett and the pack are playing awesome this year, why wouldnt he come back.
then again if he plays like crap and the pack suck it up, he wont

Let's see how the rest of the season pans out before we start talking about trading Rodgers (I just don't see that happening anyways).

This is the same thing he's been saying for the last 3-4 seasons; everything hinders on his health, his desire to play the game and the current competitive state of the Packers.

I have this weird gut feeling that when Favre actually does decide to retire, it's going to be because someone is dragging his butt off the field. I really don't think he wants to give up the game if he still feels like he can play at a high level. What else is the guy going to do? It doesn't sound like he wants to get into broadcasting and/or coaching, so what else is he going to do down in Mississippi during the football season?

Just have an odd feeling Rodgers will be starting at least 1 game this year maybe its the Karma of carrying only 2 QB's...maybe its fate....maybe its just a bad feeling.

With how promising a lot of our young guys are looking (and our D overall), I could see Favre wanting to come back again next year if we are close or make the playoffs this year.

Its probably frustrating for Rodgers, but he's still extremely young and I haven't gotten any indication he's frustrated with the situation. He made a joke in an interview during the last preseason game about how now he gets to hang up the helmet and pickup the clipboard for 16 games and there wasn't a hint of frustration in his voice, only humor.

Rodgers has also mentioned how he really has taken to heart the path Steve Young took to being an alltime great QB. You'd always like to get your chance, but you can certainly "marinate" as a very talented backup for several years and take over and come out as a Pro Bowl caliber guy right out of the gate.

I really like how Favre is playing this year, even in the Eagles game when we didn't score an offensive touchdown. He's playing much more like he did under Holmgren than he did under "whip it wherever" Sherminator. Of course, the SD defense should be a nice test of that.

If Favre continues to take the high percentage, short passes and doesn't throw the ball to the other team, I won't be upset if he comes back. I'll be shocked if he continues to do so, however.

How many boneheaded passes has he made this year? The pick against the Giants was a great play by their DB to tip it right before it got to DD. Unfortunate INT, but DD had a nice reception if not for the tip. I don't remember the one in the Eagles game.

I like the bit about the pay.....i.e. If I'm still getting $10mm per....He's feeling his oats after a great game....

He does far better under McCarthy who reigns him in with the old Holmgren offense.....but let's see how things play out here against tougher defenses as you guys have noted.

This Sunday against the Chargers won't be a fair test since he won't have Randy Moss to throw to......

I honestly hope he does because that would mean that we are having success as a team.

If we have a bomb of a year, exect to see Rodgers get his shot next season.

Why? That seems pretty stupid thing to do.

I like it either way tbh. I LOVE brett favre and as you guys stated he will come back if we have success which is a good thing and he continues to play quality football I have no complaints. If he does retire I'll miss him but Aaron Rodgers will help ease the pain, I truly believe he is the answer and call me a homer but I would take him over the overated eli manning 9/10 times. He turns 24 in december so worse case scenario favre plays 2 more seasons and AR12 will come in at age 26 and carry on the packer glory.

Guys, he gets asked this question every week at his news conference and he gives the same answer every week. For the past 2-3 years. For some odd reason this week it makes headlines.

there was a great article in the Press Gazette today about Favre and rodgers.

Wow, good story, really looked at the situation from all angles.

If Favre comes back and Rodgers is good with it, it would be great for the Packers I think.

But, the question is, as the article asks, at what point does Rodgers start to get rusty or his skills erode? And certainly, four years is alot to ask someone to sit.

But Rodgers so far seems to have gotten better despite his limited playing time, and he certainly didn't look ready in those first two years.

Campbell/Smith are getting alot of experience for their long-term benefit right now, while Rodgers is not...

Of course Favre will be playing past 2007.

The upcoming playoffs are in 2008, so that takes care of it right there

However this situations plays itself out,i really respect how Rodgers has handled himself.I remember some said before the draft that Rodgers had a questionable attitude,but at this point he seems to be only a great teammate.

One bonus that could come out of this,it seems the other players respect how well Rodgers is handling this.So when his time does come,he won't have to worry about being respected and having a leadership role.

I watch Rodgers interact with Favre after Brett does something good,it doesn't look forced and phony to me.When Brett is looking at game pictures,Rodgers is almost always there seeing if he can offer some help.Seeing the way he's acted makes me want success for him outside of just how it helps the Packers.
