Brett Favre is poised to add another NFL career record to his collection Sunday, and former Green Bay teammate Darren Sharper wants to see him get it.

The interceptions record, that is.

"He's three away, three away from it," Sharper, the Vikings' veteran safety, said Wednesday. "He has a great chance to make history."

With 275 interceptions, Favre is two shy of the NFL record held by George Blanda.

Favre also needs just one touchdown pass to break Dan Marino's career record of 420, but that isn't the record on which Sharper and the Vikings are focused.

How sweet would it be to deny Favre the touchdown record while helping him set the mark for interceptions?

"That would be big," said Sharper, who spent his first eight NFL seasons, 1997-2004, with the Packers. "Hopefully, it would be in a victory. That would be even better. That's what I'm looking to get, get to 2-2 by the bye. I think if we can make him break the interception record, it would definitely help us out in getting a victory."

Sharper's fellow defensive backs said they share those sentiments.

The one thing no one wants is to be the victim of Favre's recordsetting touchdown pass, if he does get it.

"You don't want to be that guy," cornerback Antoine Winfield. "We know they're going to come out there, spread the ball around a lot. Maybe come out and throw it 40 or 50 times. I'm sure he'll probably make a play, but you don't want to be the guy on film. This is going to go down in history. They're going to show that replay for a long time because I don't think anyone is going to break this record."
Winfield will be matched against Packers wide receiver Donald Driver for much of the afternoon, so he has more pressing concerns than records.

Rookie cornerback Marcus McCauley, who could be on the field a lot as the third cornerback in the nickel defense, said he's looking forward to playing against a future Hall of Fame quarterback he remembers watching as a kid.

As for the possibility of being burned for Favre's record-setting touchdown, McCauley said he doesn't think about such things.

"He's eventually going to break the record," McCauley said. "Somebody's going to be on 'SportsCenter' when it happens. We just don't want it to happen on us. That's our big thing. We want to help him get the interception record. A lot of people aren't noticing that, but that's our focus."

When the question of the record came up, Sharper got a quizzical look on his face.

"The interception record?" he said. "That's the only record I'm thinking of."

He's supposed to be coming up on Gary and Cliff soon. That should be fun.

As long as we stay in 4th and 30, 4th and 40 situations all day; I feel pretty good about Favre's chances against Doreen. If his receiver is in the back of the end zone, he'll be backpedaling to the 3rd row of the stands. If he plays good enough defense most of the game to make it close, we all know he'll wilt under the pressure.

Shaper....I think that he is smoking way to much weed....lord. I understand that they are looking to him for leadership, (which he never has been good for) but goodness....what a dumb thing to say. You're motivating Brett.

Ok I dont know why i am even analyzing this comment but....

I dont think Sharper will get too many opportunities. I feel most of the passes will be short and if favre does get in trouble it would be a tip DL or a pick by a LB, not the safety.

Sharper's in the league yet?

I hated Sharper when he was a Packer, glad to see he hasn't changed. I don't think there's ever been a better example of an over-rated cherry picker.

His middle name is Mallory. I prefer to call him that.

Cherry picker is a great way to describe him. He was good to return one for an TD every now and again, but his bark is bigger than his bite.

When I first read the title of the thread I thought it was about the chick(I think the daughter) from Roseanne. She probably has better tackling and coverage skills then Darren "Not So" Sharper.

I don't miss Sharper either. I always felt he was one of the most overrated players in the NFL. Sure he got his INT from time to time, but it didn't make up for all the times he got burned. He's a perfect example of a player still being in the league because of the stat sheet. I just wish they kept stats of "Times Burned" because I'm sure he'd be up among the league leaders in that category.

Sharper isn't what he once was,but he's certainly not still in the NFL just because of a stat sheet.He's at worst a middle of the pack safety in the NFL,hell he's better than some of the safeties we faced the last two weeks vs the Giants/Chargers.
