Very nice article.

Now that's a bit of a stretch.....he's certainly not a genius and he has made a multitude of moves that leave him open to criticism already, much less promising to never doubt him in the future.
He's done a very, very nice job of building up the talent base of this team. He's accumulated multiple draft picks, which in turn have resurrected the overall talent on this team. With those picks, he's found some diamonds in the rough in jennings, collins, jones, jolly and poppinga. And made some more excellent selections in colledge, wynn, crosby, blackmon etc. He hired an excellent coach and he seems to have this team on the uptick.
But let's not start inducting him into the packer hall of fame yet. He hasn't even reached Ron Wolf's status b/c he's yet to put anyone on the field comparable to #4...and he hasn't pulled in a Reggie White, either. Hell, his "best player drafted" (I don't even know who I would pick) hasn't been as good as even Sherman's "best player drafted" (Walker). Not saying that someone couldn't/won't develop into Walker's status (I certainly think some will), but it'd be premature to even guarantee that at this point.
And lest we forget, the reason why we're in first place and undefeated at this point is primarily b/c of #4. Outside of Brett, the best players on this team were acquired long before Ted Thompson arrived: Donald Driver, Al Harris, Nick Barnett, Cullen Jenkins, Aaron Kampman etc. Maybe one of his picks will develop into a star like those aforementioned (like Hawk or Jennings in particular), but like I mentioned earlier, these players have yet to do so. In fact, if there's one corollary b/w he and Wolf, it's that they both did (have done) an excellent job of finding talent from the 3rd round down. They both did (and have made) some questionable early round selections. I certainly would criticize Wolf for that, even thourh he's arguably been one of th best personnel men in the history of the NFL. And to this point, Thompson is not even in Wolf's league.
So, while TT has put together a good football team, he's far from infallible and certainly not bulletproof. There is still a LOT of football left this year and there's even more time left before we can adequately judge the ted thompson era, so let's reserve the "genius" and infallibality status for a little while, eh?
