Bomb absent from asenal

Coach Mike McCarthy was quick to affirm that Favre can still make all the throws.

"Absolutely," McCarthy said. "He had a big-time throw just (Monday) in practice, a 55-, 60-yard throw. He has plenty of arm strength left."

Improving the NFL's 32nd-ranked rushing offense would certainly help Favre's numbers rebound. So would hitting on a deep pass.

And for those who doubt Favre can still do that, he has an offer for you.

"I challenge you to come out and catch a couple for me," Favre said. "Afterwards, you make that decision."

That's great, Brett. I'm glad you're able to complete a deep pass in practice when you're wearing a red jersey and can't be hit.

I don't mind if they want to start the rumor that Brett's arm is gone.

Probably due to his bombs that fell 10-15 yards short of receivers in that redskins game.

I would love to see someone take him up on his challenge and then see the grimace on their face while trying to catch his passes.

first your on Brett's case as washed up in preseason.
Then you accept and acknowledge him when he's playing great.
Now your back to bitching and taunting.
What's it gonna be when Brett connects on long bombs to KORO?

Um, I'll be happy?

eagle, how long have I been on Brett's case about his deep accuracy? It's not as if this is something new.

I said he was playing great when he was; not surprisingly it's because he's hit on the short to mid range passes and not taking chances up the field. This must sound familiar to you.

I don't buy that Favre doesn't have the arm to throw deep,he's just not accurate often enough on deep throws.

Lets start the rumor that Bretts arm is gone. Then maybe we can get a play like Minnesota had against us when they beat Buckley deep to win a game.

He then said after the game he didn't cover the deep route because he didn't think McMahon could throw the ball that far.

Arms don't get as old as legs and backs. Look at Roger Clemons.

And I assume it'll continue to be difficult as long as he's only throwing deep once or twice a game. Tough to develop that confidence when you're not doing it regularly.

Many "fans" love to get on and off the bandwagon of players/teams. Player has a good game they love him, has a bad game and he's washed up.

Yes, but Randy Moss' first touchdown last weekend was on a drastically underthrown ball that he came back for.

:D

In any case, I will point out that Brett was running left on both his two interceptions, although that's not really an excuse, especially on the second one.

But the first one, he saw Jones too late and was running left, the conditions sucked, and Taylor made a nice play.

The man still has an arm, though. A good one at that.

Brett also seems to be burdened with the expectation of never throwing another interception. He was fantastic through the first few weeks of the season but as soon as he threw an interception, especially that ball to Urlacher, the cries were "Favre returns to his old form," and "here we go again."

No quarterback is expected to play without making mistakes but as soon as Brett makes one, the mob is out. I personally thinks it's ridiculous, first, to say that Brett throwing an interception is a "return to the old Brett Favre." Second, to expect flawless play from him, playing next to almost all rookies and second year players is unrealistic.

What about the 2 Taylor dropped interceptions and the 3 open long passes to Jennings, who happened to be wide open that he missed?....Favre played 3 great games after week 1 but has played terribley the past 6 quarters (a 36 QB rating)....my fear is that teams will take away the middle of the field on Favre, where he stands out and make him throw deep, where he is extremely vulnerable.

Isn't it amazing that no team has seemingly been able to cover Jennings at this point, think its time to look at him alot more.

Favre needs to hit some deep passes when the guys are 5+ yards behind the defense and he hasn't done it well recently or overall in his career. Several of us on here have pointed that out for years.

Maybe Favre hasn't miscalculated his deep passes much during his career. But according to statistics provided by STATS LLC, Favre has never been a very good deep passer.

In passes thrown from 1 to 30 yards in the air (yards after the catch are not included), Favre's numbers meet or exceed the league averages this season and throughout his career.

But in passes that travel beyond 30 yards, Favre has consistently been below average.

This season, Favre has completed 11.1% of his passes from 31-40 yards, which is down from his 19.9% career average. In 2006, NFL quarterbacks completed 25.7% of passes in that range.

Beyond 40 yards, Favre's numbers drop off even more: He hasn't connected on one since 2005 and is 0 for 13 the past two years. The NFL average is 23.7%.

If the past two seasons are eliminated from Favre's 20.9% career average over 40 yards, his average (23.0%) would be much more in line with the league average.

GJ and JJ have both been open deep this year and Favre has completely missed them either way short or long (remember JJ against the Eagles on what could have been a 70 yard TD?).

He certainly still has a great arm. I think his poor mechanics are catching up to him on the deep throws though.

You're an idiot. He's single handedly lead the Pack to a 5-1 record so far this season. A "washed up" QB isn't capable of leading a team to that record (with the worst running game in the NFL). So I will once again say, you're an idiot.
