Super Bowl butt kicking or NFC title game loss?
I was thinking if we managed to make the Super Bowl, odds look good we'd face the Patriots and that game could get ugly. If you could see the future and if we made the SB and got totally crushed by the Pats, would you rather the team just lost in the NFC title game?

No way I want this team to go as far as they can. Just cause the pats have looked incredible doesn't mean they are unbeatable.
Anything can happen any given sunday.
Do I think we would beat the pats...probally not, but thats why they play games and don't just talk about them cause anything can happen, ecspecially with Old Man River taking snaps.
Anyone who would want this team to lose in the NFC title game and not the SB is not a real Packer fan IMHO.

It's probably a safe bet that whatever team makes it out of the NFC is likely to get rolled by the Pats. Say it's Dallas. Look at what NE already did to them.
It's saying even less to be the team that got beat before even making it to the SB.
I know that nobody remembers who lost to the team that lost the SB in a blowout (for example, if I had to guess I'd say it was likely Pittsburgh that lost to San Diego the year the Bolts got creamed by San Fran, but it's total speculation), but I don't know if anyone looks back and says the Chargers shouldn't have been there or that the Steelers would have made it a better game. I think people just chalk it up to the NFC being a lot better that season.
So I'd rather go to the SB. You at least get the pub of being the NFC representative and two weeks to hear about how great you are.

Did you even read the post?
I said if you could see the future and saw the Packers did get destroyed in the Super Bowl. Never once did i say we should cheer for the Pack to lose in an NFC title game or that there was zero chance we could beat NE, not sure what you were railing on about.

I think he was simply responding realistically, instead of wallowing in some fantasy world where you know the future before it happens.

ummm...huh?
Did you read my post...The very first sentence answered your question. "No Way, I want this team to go as far as they can."
Maybe I wasn't very clear, but I wasn't accusing you of not rooting for the Pack I was just saying that any one who would want the Pack to lose in the NFC championship game rather than lose in the Super Bowl is not a real packer fan.

It still seems like you're not getting El Duderino's hypothetical question brewcityboii.
Think of it as looking back, not looking forward.
Do you want the Packers to be remembered as the team that got killed in the SB? I don't really remember how the game went when Atlanta played Denver. Or when Pittsburgh went up against Dallas. Or any of the Buffalo years. But I distinctly remember the laugher that was San Diego vs San Francisco.
The question is one you ask yourself after the game. "Wow, maybe it would have been better if we would have lost to Dallas and let them take the beating". Only because we've got our crystal ball, we can see that outcome now.
Personally, even if it were the Monday after the SB and Green Bay had just been embarrassed on the world's biggest stage, I think I'd still be glad the Packers had gotten there.
The question isn't before the NFC championship game. Someone thinking, "Alright, we're here but since we'll probably get killed in the SB maybe it's better if we lose now".
The question is after and you KNOW they got killed.

I only brought it up because i know a guy who is a huge Ohio St. fan. We were talking football because the Badgers played them. Then we got to talking about when they lost to Florida in the title game. He said it was embarrassing to get rolled that bad with everyone watching and he kinda wished they hadn't even made the title game after seeing them get destroyed like that and having to hear how overrated they were.

I think this is a good question.....I still carry immense "sports" pain from that Denver loss and from the Brewers loss to the Cardinals.....the Brewers is worse because that team never won it all.
I'm not sure how I'd feel here simply because I'd really not enjoy the 18 consecutive ESPN.com front page Bill Simmons columns where he'd now rationalize that the Patriots are the greatest NFL franchise ever and start a petition to rename the Lombardi trophy the Bellichik Cup.

I'd say you take the Super Bowl because, as was pointed out earlier, you've got that time leading up to it when you're one of two teams that is the sole focus of the football world. It's a fun time and you'll have that even if your team gets destroyed in the game.
I can see me anguishing during that time if someone like the Cowboys gets that attention when I knew the Packers were that close. I'd have to avoid all sports channels for that time and it'd only be a small consolation when the Cowboys were then slaughtered in the Super Bowl.
