Packers vs. Panther pregame talk

There will be a QB older than Favre playing in recently turned 44 year old, Vinny Testaverde.

The Panthers have a horrible offense, their defense got picked apart by Joey Harrington last week, defense only has 9 sacks total which is as many as Aaron Kampman has alone. Al Harris always gives Steve Smith troubles and he seems to be their only playmaker on the offensive end.

I expect a game very similar to the on the Packers just played against the Vikings and a easy win.

What do you mean, Harris always shuts Smith down? They haven't played for 2 years and I don't remember Harris going up against him before that.

They played in 2005 and Smith had only 2 catches for 12 yards, I believe it was Harris matching up with him could be someone else. Doesn't matter as the Packers are now a totally different team still I don't see Smith having a huge game.

During the postgame show on the radio Sunday, someone called in and asked if this was the oldest combined QB age. Vinny and Brett combine for 82 years. They never gave the answer, anyone know?

I don't quite understand how Carolina is 4-5. Seems like heir record should be much worse.

yea i'm not going to call a shutout, because that is always one of the hardest things to predict, but we are not going to allow too many points. and i believe we'll at least score 25.

If anyone happens to know where to find boxscores from way back in 1975, the Chiefs and the Raiders played twice that year. George Blanda, age 48, attempted 3 passes that year - if he happened to take a snap at QB against the Chiefs and Len Dawson (40 years old in 1975) that would be a combined QB age of 88. But Blanda hadn't started a game for years, so if you're question was what's the oldest combined age between 2 starting NFL quarterbacks I'd bet this week's game is it.

By the way, I checked but Steve Deberg (44) never faced Warren Moon (42) in 1998, Deberg's last year. Deberg and Moon are the 2 QBs older than Testaverde to start an NFL game.

According to the NFL, they would become the oldest starting quarterback duo in league history at a combined 82 years, 44 days.

Actually there is a chance David Carr might start, not that he is anything to be worried about, John Fox was at least hinting toward that yesterday.

yea really not much to worry about. either way the offensive line is playing horrible. and with his bad back he'll be as immobile as testeverde would've been. but bad move by john fox to put in a QB coming off his second concussion this year against one of the best defensive lines in the league. we are going to feast on this guy and it'll probably be over by halftime.

It's the NFL and anything can happen. But I simply can't see any way this one isn't over by the start of the 4th quarter.

I worry about every game the Packers play - I don't think any win in the NFL is easy, so I'll hold off on allowing myself to get too overconfident with this team. Yeah on paper this looks like an easy win, but like DB said, anything can happen.

This would be the perfect trap game. The Packers have Detroit coming up on Thursday in a short week, which is a huge game. Carolina kind of sucks, and have a lot of issues. I wouldnt be surprised if the Packers were sloppy, had a lot of turnovers, and ended up having a rought time. Honestly, a close victory wouldnt be the end of the world, it might keep the Packers humbled going into Detroit.

In addition to Cooper, running back DeShaun Foster (toe), receiver Steve Smith (leg) and defensive tackle Damione Lewis (shoulder) missed practice. Cornerback Ken Lucas (hip) participated on a limited basis.

Cooper is their safety. We'll see the return of Marquand Manuel.

How many TD's do you expect Favre to have guys?

I almost hope Vinny doesn't start because I am worried about the punishment he's going to take if he doesn't move well in the pocket anymore. I remember when Giant QB Jared Lorenzen came in against the Packers earlier this year and thinking "he's not going to last a series" and sure enough, a few plays later he was a busted pinata. I fear for the health of the non-mobile QBs we face, like Lorenzen and the Vikings' Kelly Holcomb. You have to pull for a 44-year old starting quarterback like Vinny, but I doubt he'll finish the game.

Steve Smith has missed 2 straight practices. Might not play.

Nice, have fun. I just can not wait to go to the Raiders game and the lions game still this year. Every win the Pack gets, gets me that much more excited to go to these games!
