Vick gets 23 months.

Post#1 » by ReasonablySober » Mon Dec 10, 2007 4:59 pm

I was expecting anything from 12-18. Judge appears to be making a statement.

However, he could get out after three months with good behavior.

Still, Goodell could still effectively end his career with a year or two banishment from the league.

I was in the same ballpark and expecting a 13-16 month sentence , thought 18 would be the absolute max.

I don't think he can get out in three months on a federal sentence.

I thought you HAD to serve around 80 percent of it ?

Drug Bust I just read something on ESPN, it said he can REDUCE his sentence by 3 months not get out in three months.

They said he would've gotten 12-18 had he just been honest with the judge about everything from the beginning. But because he lagged with getting all of the facts straight, tis is what happened.

He also has 3 years probation.

Even when he gets out I think he faces a 1 year suspension from the NFL at the bare minimum, unless Goodell just ends up feeling sorry for him or somethin'.

So yea, I don't think we'll be seeing Vick in a NFL uniform for another 3 years if I had to guess.

ESPN's legal analyst actually believes that had Vick come forward once his relative went under investigation, Vick never would have spent a day in jail.

I feel 23 months is way too much time. Hopefully Goodell feels the same way and decides to not suspend Vick. I have a feeling that when Vick comes back, he may convert to a WR, RB, or PR/KR if no team wants to take a risk on him as a QB. It would be interesting to see what he could do at another position.

Vick would probably have still gotten only 12-18 months if he hadnt decided to keep smoking pot while under house arrest and getting randomly checked. We reap what we sow. I have absolutely no sympathy for this idiot.

Who would have guessed that Marcus was going to turn out to be the good brother?

Yup! Like Leonard Little killing a mother, and then getting another DUI after the fact.

Gotta love this flawed justice system.

Oh, that's probably true. I was just referring to Vick's ever changing stories he told to the judge.

I see at least a year suspension coming down from Goodell once he serves out his prison sentence, so in essence, he'll probably miss three full seasons at the very least, am I correct in that assumption?

That's a long time to be out of the NFL; however, because Vick is such a good athlete, I see a team giving him a second chance, but I don't think any franchise will be ready to give him the keys to the kingdom (starting QB).

I think a suspension once he returns would be just stupid. Just suspend him while he's serving time in jail. 3 Years is too much but I feel like he could come back after 1 1/2 - 2 years. I'd rather see a wonderful comeback story than the alternative of hearing/knowing that old people who don't like his style or PETA members feel all warm and fuzzy inside because he is out of a job. I understand it is a privilege to play in the NFL but for what that guy did for the Falcons organization I believe he deserves a second chance...I've been in a similar situation on a much smaller level with a drinking suspension(I wasn't a terrible kid I was tattled on when visiting my brother at college) when I was playing high school football. Being unable to help my team who was inches away from a state title was enough punishment for me...and trust me the motivation and improved attitude I had coming back that led to a great season the following year, one I never would have had without hitting rock bottom the year before. This was much better than the alternative of losing my chance to play forever and probably just continuing to break the rules because heck, I was kicked out anyways what did I have to gain?

I guess I could have given speeches to 8th graders or something just like people say Vick could redeem himself without coming back to football but I feel like a similar outcome to the one I actually had for Vick would give much more inspiration to people who have been down and out or have made a mistake in their lives.

And if you try and say that the sort of punishment I am suggesting would suggest to NFL players that the league is soft and allows this kind of behavior well then I guess I wasn't aware that most people would donate $100 million dollars, 2 years of their lives, and their public reputation to break the rules.

Goodell wouldn't suspend him, I don't think. By then, he'd have paid his debt to society.

Vick is just plain stupid.

Doing something blatantly illegal in the first place that risks your career and is absolutely disgusting, immoral and neanderthal.

Lying about it.

Smoking dope while under investigation when the odds of being tested are through the roof.

Douche bag of all douche bags. He deserves the sentence he got.

That being said - once he gets out he should be allowed to play IF IF IF he shows sincere remorse and acknowledgement of the wrong and acceptes his responability. IF he gets out and has any kind of attitude he should be banned for life. Do not want a jerk with an attitude in a role model position. Again IF he's humble then let him play - he'll be a good teacher to kids about admitting mistakes and considering your actions.
