The NFL announced today that Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre leads all NFL players in fan balloting for the 2008 Pro Bowl.
Favre received 1,140,863 votes to finish ahead of New England quarterback Tom Brady (1,037,608) and Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning 991,418.
The fan vote counts one-third in the Pro Bowl selection process. The coaches and players, who cast their votes today and Friday, constitute the other two thirds.
The NFL will announce the winners next Tuesday.
Congrats to Favre!
We all know the Pro Bowl is a popularity contest, but I think the fans actually got this one right. Favre has had a hell of a season and deserves this honor from his fans. I wish he would play in the Pro Bowl though!

Lets make this the Pro Bowl thread. I was actually about to make a thread speculating who may make it. The rosters are announced next Favre, Kampman and Woodson are locks.
I would put Greg Jennings, Nick Barnett, Donald Lee and Al Harris next in line. Nick's leading the defense on 11-2 team and I think he'll be rewarded. Harris has been getting a lot of nice pub this season and Jennings has made a lot of big plays in big situations. He's 2nd in yards per catch among the top 52 WRs in the NFL. He's also tied for fourth in TDs in the NFL (2nd in the NFC). Sportsline ranks Lee 4th in the NFC in tight ends behind Witten, Cooley and Shockey. I think Lee could make it over Shockey. More TEs, better YPC, plays on a better team.
Guys with an outside shot would be Corey Williams, Ryan Pickett and Donald Driver. Williams has 7 sacks which is great for an interior lineman. Pickett has quietly put together a damn good season. Sportsline has him as the 10th best DT in the NFC. I think it's low. Driver's being hurt by a lack of TDs and big time plays.
I think it's possible that Tauscher goes.

I say Nick Barnett should go and Greg Jennings should be considered also.

I can't wait for the Pro Bowl. It will be my first NFL game that I will see in person. Hopefully tons of Packers make it. I'll be in the 12th row in the NFC section. Anyone else planning on making the trip to Honolulu?

Where are you seeing the results?
In our last Pro Bowl thread I'd speculated that Hawk may make it because of his name.
Most casual fans that vote don't watch Green Bay or pay attention to the play on the field. For years Briggs was the best linebacker on Chicago but Urlacher received the accolades. Hawk was the high draft pick from the big time university. He'll make a lot of Pro Bowls because of it.
Regardless, fan voting is only one third. Barnett should carry player and coaching votes.
One guy I think should have a nice shot is Tracy White.
edit: now I'm seeing the results.
Harris, Urlacher and Roy Williams on there is a joke.

I don't see where anyone is posting the pro bowlers. It says on NFL.com that we will not know until the 18th.

Yea, we just know the results of the fan voting, which accounts for one third in the process.

Hey are you the guy from Hawaii that makes the Bucks' west coast trip every year?

I'm not the only one who's miffed. Here's what Barnett had to say when I asked him about it:
"I'm happy that Hawk got it, and I hope we can get as many players as we can there. It'd be nice.
"Will I make it? I don't know. I'm probably not the most liked player, obviously, and that's not going to happen. I don't even know if other coaches and players like me, because really, I'm an (expletive). I don't play to make friends, and I don't sit around and talk to them after the game, and I don't campaign, and I don't do none of that (expletive). I'm here to play football, bottom line, and either you like me or you don't.
"It sucks that it's the only way you can really figure out who's a Pro Bowl player or not, is to vote. But when you're that type of player, it's hard to get votes."

I love how Barnett is such a Dick.

Scouts Inc released their teams. Packers that made it:
Favre, QB
Kampman, DE
Barnett, MLB
Woodson, CB
Snubs they listed:
Jennings, WR
Lee, TE
Wells, C
Hawk, OLB
Harris, CB
Crosby, K
I can't really argue with any. My big hope is Barnett to make it. He absolutely has to get in.

I'm fairly certain we're going to see the fewest Pro Bowlers elected from a potential 14-2 team since New England sent three in '03.
Not including specialists:
San Diego got 8 in '06.
Indy got 8 in '05.
Pittsburgh got 9 in '04.
We won't see close to those numbers.

I'll be disappointed if Jennings doesn't get in, but I have a feeling that he won't.
I think it'll be the same people that Scouts Inc chose.

By the way. For those keeping score at home:
Green Bay: 12-2 - Four Pro Bowlers
Dallas Cowboys: 12-2 - Eleven Pro Bowlers.
