Patriots doomed! Fun fact from TMQ

I usually find something fun reading Gregg Easterbrook's Tuesday Morning Quarterback columns. This week's turn pits 16-0 versus 0-42 - something's gotta give. It seems the QB that leads the NFL in passing yards has NEVER won a super bowl in 42 tries, a fact I am surprised I've never heard of before.

"Tom Brady finished with a league-leading 4,806 passing yards, and for long stretches, New England's aerial attack seemed unstoppable even against solid defenses. Yet impressive as the Flying Elvii passing game was, the numbers posted were not unprecedented. In 2004, Daunte Culpepper recorded 4,717 passing yards. In 2002, Rich Gannon led the league with 4,689 passing yards. In 2001, Kurt Warner had 4,830 passing yards. In 1984, Dan Marino led the league with 5,082 passing yards. In 1981, Dan Fouts compiled 4,802 passing yards. Culpepper, Gannon, Warner, Marino, Fouts -- of all these quarterbacks with Brady-like performance, none went on to win the Super Bowl that season."

The story includes a table listing the pass yardage leaders for the 40+ years of the super bowl era. Funny that Favre's 2 appearances on the list, in '95 and '98, bookend but do not coincide with the Pack's recent super bowl years.

Oh yes, it seems it's also time for the annual Reggie McKenzie Frequent-Flyer Mile-a-thon: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3177277
Better luck this year, Reggie!

I'd rephrase that and say, anyone who isn't a NE fan wants them to lose.

...unless you have money riding on them. :D

I hope not, but if by some chance we wind up with a Patriots - Cowboys super bowl matchup I don't know who I'll want to root against more. TO? Moss? Belichick? Jessica Simpson? It would be like being forced to watch Jerry Springer.

I would be shocked if more than 20% of the country would be rooting for the patriots against the pack in the super bowl.

It would be a nightmare for me if the Pats and Cowboys played in the super bowl because I can't stand either of those franchises.

You've met one? I haven't. Neither have I heard anyone on the radio that's not a NE fan that wants them to win. Or the internet.

I laugh at the discussions of them being "America's Team."

Cool, another record to break. I was getting worried that there weren't any left.

Don't choke next week.

That would be beyond hysterical if that were to somehow happen. Teh big bad Patriots, media blowing 'em all season and then...a loss in the first playoff game.

I thought it was hilarious when the NFL Network was doing all their "Pursuit of perfection" video montage stuff in the fourth quarter of the Giants game when the Patriots were losing.

I'd certainly laugh.
