Tom Pelissero, of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, reports Green Bay Packers RB Ryan Grant did not practice Wednesday, June 4, because of his contract situation.

Whats he making for you guys like 300k? & he is your starter? I'm sure the front office will rectify this. I mean they have to, right?

technically they don't. Grant has a contract where he has to play for the packers for minimum salary for a few years or something like that. Hes in a real tough position and Thompson is notoriously cheap. But in the end Im sure they will throw grant something

He's only completed two seasons. So he can either sign the vet's minimum tender or he can sit out a year. He really doesn't have a choice in the matter. If he's got a problem, he should take it to the NFLPA.

TT doesn't give guys who go public like that new contracts too often. Al harris the only exception I can think of. Not a smart move on Grant's part. The guy has played just over half a season for us. He's got a lot to prove yet. If he continues to perform the way he did last season, by the end of next season he'll have a new contract.

They should give him a contract ala Ryan Braun.

Make him happy and pay him more now than what you will pay for him in future years.

Grant has a chance to be a special player in GB, IMO.

I agree.

AFAIK, what is happening right now is that Grant's agent is working out a deal with the Packers. There isn't any bad blood on either side. Until he signs a contract, he won't practice, but he's still there working out.

There is a major concern giving him a contract "ala Ryan Braun." He hasn't proven anything yet. He needs to show us he can play a full season in the league. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a real talent, but he needs to put in more time in the league and put up consistant numbers for at least 7-8 games next season. Gotta make sure he's the real deal otherwise that contract ala Braun could turn out to be the contract ala Gadzuric. No one wants that.

Different sports. In the NFL if he stinks up the joint or gets hurt he'll be cut.

If he wants to sign a long term deal then fine, but he's going to leave a lot of money on the table, the same way Willie Parker did when he signed his first big deal.

I believe in Grant enough to give him a multi-year deal, but i'd only do it if the deal is very team friendly and buys out a year or two of free agency.

The simple fact is that he can play the next two years for less than $2 million total, or he can make six times that by signing a four year deal if he's willing to go two into his free agency years. To be honest, he really doesn't even deserve that. But with the Packers cap situation they can afford to be a bit generous.

You guys know damn well it's not the TT way and he's not getting a new contract before the season starts. If he would have just took the high road and expressed to the organization that he wanted a new deal instead of going public it might be a different story. TT aint gonna be shown up by a guy who played 8-9 good games.

Grant better get a new contract before the season. I don't believe he is under contract right now unless he did sign his tender. I have no problem with the way Grant is handling this. This is far from the way Walker handled his contract situation and he was under contract. I think they will come to a fair agreement for both sides. The Packers might overpay a little based on what Grant has done, but if he performs close to what he did the second half of last year the Packers will have a bargain.

NO he is not currently under contract. He is however an exclusive rights free agent which essentially means he cannot negotiate with any NFL team other than the Pack. Free Agent is strange term for his situation. While He has no contract - he is anything but free.

He's free to sit out a year. That's it.

Exactly. And those of you believing he is are blowing this way out of proportion. He has no money coming to him, so it would be stupid of him to practice. If he gets hurt, he's screwed.

The two sides will eventually come to an agreement.

i think we are making to big a deal about this...he is there but not participating becasue he doesnt want to get hurt before the contract they are close on gets signed
