Why not package Driver with Favre?

Post#1 » by zmanishere11 » Wed Jul 16, 2008 8:08 pm

Stockjock over at Packerchatters.com brought up the possibility of trading Driver with Favre (if it gets to that point) and I wanted to see what you all thought about the idea.

Personally I like it. Driver's a great guy, but I have a hard time believing that he's going to be real stoked if Brett wants to come back and they trade him. Plus, for a team like TB who has poor recievers as it is, they might be willing to up the anty considerablly by adding Driver in (definately a 1st round pick, probably more).

Plus, a recieving core of Jennings/Jones/Nelson/Martin, while young, has the potential to be extremely good, and might still be the best group in the division. Jennings steps into the true #1 reciever role, Jones catches everything in sight, and Nelson could take advantage of matching up with nickel CB's and LB's.

if we want to win this year, like we do, why on earth would we trade Driver? I hate the idea. I've finally come to the conclusion i'd be ok with a favre trade to an AFC team, but don't throw our best receiver with him. Nelson and Jones are NOT ready to take over the 2 spot.

Yeah, let's make sure the Bucs make the playoffs, good idea. Driver isn't going anywhere. There are so many reasons why this trade would never happen. I'm not even going to waste my time.

I don't like it from a fan standpoint but it would maximze the return we could get for Favre by packaging him with an offensive weapon that Favre would have instant Rapport with.

I don't think TT would trade Driver because at this point TT has staked his future as Packer GM on Rodgers. Everything depends on Rodgers. The last thing he can afford right now is to subtract targets for Rodgers to throw to. Only if Driver became a militantly pro-Favre cancer would TT consider this. Maybe next year, if JJ and Jordy step up this season and the Rodgers transition is going well.

I personally want to win this year, and Driver is important for that. He draws the doubles....

With out Favre here, I believe we can still make the playoffs, but chances are less likely, IMO. Don't see Rodgers starting all 16 games. I see Brohm starting at least 4.

Plus we still don't have a RB situation taken care of...

Until we shore that up, I think we are in a small rebuilding mode, with or with out driver. QB is the most important position on the field followed by the D and O lines, IMO. Our D line has taken hits with Jolly out, williams gone, Harrell hurt and Cole coming off of an injury. With Brett I could see us at 11-5, maybe 12-4, with out we will be around a .500 team + or minus a few depending on how many games Rodgers plays. That could still be playoffs for sure, but not a lock, IMO.

I know what a lot of drama can do to a locker room. Look at my Chi Bulls last year. The Pack are going to have to come out strong to shut the critics up. I know of a lot of people who are closing the door on our season right now. I am not one, but this should be an interesting season ahead of us!

I have a question for you in particular, I know you are not the only Favre guy regardless of what he does, but your people always spew there crystal ball stuff about Rodgers missing x amount of games, if your crystal ball told you both QB's could get the Packers to the playoffs but neither would make the Superbowl, which direction would you choose to go in?

Trading Driver with Favre would be the dumbest thing we could do. They would definitely never do that.
