Hey guys I've seen a couple of times on tv people referring to the meeting today with the shareholders and saying the Packers are unique because they are the only "publicly owned team in the NFL"
so what exactly does that mean?

There is a Board of Directors who oversee the daily operorations, just like any other publicly owned corporation. Not sure about any more details since there are over 100,000 sharehoders. But the Board would make decisions in the best interest of the organization, not sure how much pull they have if any about particulars including player decisions.

I do.
(Yes, I wasted $200 for a piece of paper that says so)

My friend is a big time NFL owner too. I think he has 5 shares, what were they; $40 a share?

Speaking of the shareholder meeting, sounds like it was overwhelmingly pro-team and there weren't many boos or jeers for Thompson. Good to hear.

That's what I heard too. Good to hear as well. I think more people are sick of the whole Favre drama than we realize. I know I am.

The board does have pull. THe moss deal was done 2 years ago until the Board got together and they veto'ed the deal that Thompson had put together. Would have been a 4th round pick, I believe.
Direct from someone on the board, they felt they were acting on behalf of the community of Green Bay, and they didn't want him living here.

I think they were actually $250 a share, at least according to our tour guide during my Lambeau tour a couple months ago.
They don't get dividends/a share of the profit the team makes or anything. They just get a piece of paper saying that they are a shareholder. The Board of Directors has real pull, and they're selected by the shareholders.

You can't legally sell your share for more than the original $200.00 either.
