Ramblings on Roster- OL

Not ready to sleep and wanted to yak football. Tis the (Pre) Season!
This just some details to kick around. I welcome reading any ideas you have.
There is a strong faction that states – its won in the trenches. Consider me one.
OL – where it starts. DL – where it stops.
OL -
Consider Chad, Mark, Scott & Jason solid.
2 main needs – starting LG & backup (future) LT.
We have two promising young prospects. IMHO
Josh Sitton & Allen Barbre
We also have College, Moll, Costin, Beno, Orrin….
Barbre (2nd yr - 4th rd - T in college) is a great athlete with a positive nasty attitude and is current odds on favorite for LG (despite ultra low Wonderlic).
Its way early but 4th pick Josh Sitton has looked great in pass blocking drills. If he can keep that going in games and be effective in the ZBS and the ground game (our weakness) then I say play em.
And there’s Daryn Colledge. Decent pass blocking LG that has not proven out in run blocking. Inconsistent. Terrible outing as starting LT last season. Needed lots of help.
Who is the best LT prospect? IMO its Barbre.
Who is best G prospect? IMO its Sitton (after spitz).
Sitton has taken all his reps at RG. As a rookie he benefits staying at one position. Meanwhile Spitz has started a few games at LG. Soooo….
Chad, Mark, Scott and
Sitton at RG
Spitz at LG
Practice Barbre exclusively at LT and have him ready there. He also of course knows LG.
College? Stays at LG backing Spitz who is #2 center and RG, so College effectively backs all 3 interior spots Spitz, Wells, & Sitton. Also 3rd string LT. His best position is probably RT so he can concentrate on LG that he’s been doing and add RT.
Costin has been around 3yrs. Its now or never. Some tout his versatility. But IMHO that is more of a result of coaches looking for a position than talent. He showed flashes but did not take ownership of LG last year when he was given repeated shot. This camp he’s at center but he’s clearly #3 center behind Spitz. He’s not even in mix for starting G spot.
Moll played sorta OK as a rookie but entering his 3rd yr he has not gotten better and also has not put claim to a G spot. Currently is being killed in LT experiment. A converted college TE he’s probably best at RT with RG 2nd.
Orrin? Maybe he’s got something but I figured he was hanging around b/c he showed promise at LT – but – currently he’s working at RT. With Moll getting killed over at LT - its not impressive that Orrin’s on the R. He’s toast.
Beno – another converted TE. Big. Working exclusively at RT. A project. Though unproven, probably too good a prospect to expose on PS.
So Pack keeps min of 8.
LT CLif / Barbre / College
LG Spitz / College / Barbre
C Wells / Spitz
RG Sitton / Sptiz
RT Tausch / Beno / College
IF they carry 9 then either Moll or Costin. Both play Rg & Rt. Costin also C. Seems many of you like Juice. I prefer Moll. But it don’t really matter as it will be either guys last season.
Maybe we sign another final cut player like Palmer, bush & Peprah 2 yrs back.
Pack started last season with just 8.
Usually just 7 active. That’d be starters + Barbre & College.
Stash rookie FAs G Keenan & Carvallo C on PS.
A thot?
Since our 3 best TEs seem to excel as receivers and we lack a blocker – to maximize roster spots couldn’t Moll or Beno serve as TE in blocking line ups? Something like Kevin Barry years back? Neither guy is Barry as a blocker yet – but both had college careers as TEs? Probably too slow to play TE in pros but for blocking alignments?
That’s it. I’m ready to crash. What do you guys think?
