Report: Favre to Retire (Again)?

Post#1 » by humanrefutation » Wed Aug 6, 2008 2:25 am

EDIT: Here's the story from WTMJ: http://www.620wtmj.com/news/local/26320089.html

By Nick Iannelli
Story Updated: Aug 6, 2008

According to WTMJ's Bill Michaels, Brett Favre is leaving Green Bay. Michaels has been in Green Bay all day and now he says not only is Favre going back to Mississippi, but "It appears that Brett Favre is probably going to walk away from football."

Michaels reports "Brett apparently is gassing up the plane and he's either going to be leaving town tonight for Mississippi tonight or probably tomorrow but it looks like Brett Favre is going to be walking away from the Green Bay Packers."

According to Michaels, Favre may still take the 25 million dollar buyout from the Packers, but either way it looks like Favre is going to be heading back to Mississippi.

This could be a perfect scenario. I feel bad for a guy that is in a way forced into retirement however he kind of dug his own grave.

It just softens the blow of the comparisons we will get from how Rodgers is doing to how Favre is.

I don't buy that he's leaving football just because he's leaving Green Bay. It appears that Michaels is reading too much into his action. He can discuss the possibility of being traded to Tampa Bay over the phone just as well in Hattiesburg as he can in Green Bay. He felt like he still has football left in him which he won't a couple years from now, he went through all the trouble to get reinstated, retiring a 2nd time because he just had an emotional/disappointing conversation w/ the Packers would be an even more rash decision than his initial retirement. He'll be traded to TB or whoever his #2 choice besides the Viqueens actually is. I have never seen so much misinformation in my life.

If he indeed retires again, I'll be the first person to jump back on the "I love Brett" bandwagon. All will be forgiven and forgotten.

I edited the title to reflect the lack of clear confirmation.

Lawlz. Favre was mad that the Packers were asking for more compensation from the Bucs than the Jets according to Mort and were trying to "control where he goes".

THAT'S CALLED BEING GM, BRETT. You signed a contract with us and we can decide what to do with you until you are out of a GB contract. However, most GB fans would disagree and we should do what is in the best interest for a player instead of our own team.

Anything we get for Brett is gravy to me given the team planned for him to be retired. Plus, it would make for great entertainment to see the Packers play a Favre lead Tampa team in week four.

Imagine the ratings for that game

I'm thinking NFL Network would be all over that one. Glad I have U-Verse!

Favre to Tampa would be nice...but to NY I would honestly be bouncing off the walls. If he is REALLY that good of a QB still then he would definitely have to prove it there. I think he could be an average QB and Tampa could still be good in that division.

Michael's is a buffoon. I wouldn't believe a single word out of his mouth. He comes out with the worst rumors and developing stories. I remember on draft day a few years ago when he said the Packers were about to trade for Reggie Bush. He is just trying to get his name in the news because I guess being ESPN's bitch everyday isn't enough pub. for him.
