Wynn released, Harrell to miss at least 6 games
Good move. I hope Lumpkin makes the final roster. He's looked good this preseason.

Hopefully Lumpkin gets that last spot. I don't want to take a chance on him on the PS.
Harrell is officially a bust. If he ever contributes anything I'll be very surprised.

I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Wynn was good, hopefully Lumpkin is given a spot on the roster now. Either way we seem set at RB. And I am not calling Harrell a bust yet because he really has not been on the field yet. I will only give a player the bust label if they get on the field and do horrible.

I don't really have any expectations or hope for Harrell. I just want to see him get healthy at somepoint this season so the Packers can see what they have.

Lumpkin >>> Morency >>> Herron
Our DL is in trouble right now.

Knowing there is a reason that there are some guys out there who aren't on any team, I think TT has to bring in somebody to fill the depth on the DL.

Re: Wynn released, Harrell to miss at least 6 games
Here's some preseason stats to hash over. Grant and Jackson are locks at RB. I am eager to see what Lumpkin does against the Titans starters this week; if he runs well versus their number one defense and demonstrates he can block blitzers better than Jackson, he might even be our number two RB. Morency's days look numbered, especially considering how good Herron has looked. If we only keep three halfbacks it would be great if we could somehow hide Mr. Dependable Herron on the practice squad in case of injury.

Kregg Lumpkin--- 28 126 4.5 21 ----- 3 26 8.7

DeShawn Wynn---- 4 10 2.5 6 -------- 0 00 0.0

Re: Wynn released, Harrell to miss at least 6 games
Its early to call JH a bust but it sure seems that way. Hopefully he won't feed his face while in rehab.
So we used a 1st to draft an unproven injured rookie DT (when we needed a top CB or OL) so we would not have to pay a proven DT/DE and trade him for a 2nd. And we still need a CB and OL.
Strike 1 - use a 1st for rookie DL and get a 2nd back for vet DL
Strike 2 - in 2nd year JH still fat & injured
Strike 3 - still no top CB or OL prospect.
TT thriftiness was miscalculated and seems just cheap.
i said it then - should have traded that pick either up, down or for vet.
I could see it IF Cory had a bad attitude but he was a great locker room guy.

As for Wynn. Oh well.
IF BJax can prove to be reliable 3rd down back (coaches were considering that b4 Grant's hold out) then Lumpkin makes it.

It's sort of tough to draft a top OL or CB prospect when you're drafting at the end of each round. In 2008 five CBs and eight on the OL had been drafted by the time the Packers were set to make their first pick.
As for his picks in the last two first rounds, he did exactly what you wanted, he traded down.
Would it be great to have Corey Williams right now? Sure. But in two seasons we could be saying how great it is to have Brian Brohm. There's no way to judge that deal right now.

Re: Wynn released, Harrell to miss at least 6 games
I am thinking Cleveland might wish the Packers still had Corey Williams as he is struggling at the 3-4 De spot, not good against the run at all I am hearing...hmmmmmm. Green Bay will have to move a quality LB (Hodge) and has some offensive line prospects who have started....Coston, maybe Moll..........who could be put together in a trade for some DL depth.

The Packers don't even need to get a starter. Nobody is coming in to replace Jolly or Pickett. What the team needs is another warm body or two. Someone to rotate in with Cole. I don't think finding someone in FA or via trade is going to prove to be difficult.

I don't know why Cleveland wanted Corey so much with their defensive scheme. He needs to be in a 4-3 to be effective.

Re: Wynn released, Harrell to miss at least 6 games
Cleveland was playing with "New Money" this off season. I like what I see in Lumpkin, I think he shows great instincts and looks more like a guy who can be the feature back if Grant goes down and our other 3rd down type backs. Harrell is just another Green Bay First Round bust. We should start trading our first round picks away for veterns because we don't know what to do with them.

not true, jolly will probably be suspended soon. we shoulda drafted quin instead of harrell and then we wouldnt of needed to trade williams and draft brohm.

First of all, if Jolly's getting suspended it probably won't be until next season.
Second, had we drafted and kept Quinn we'd be in the same position Cleveland's in, i.e. one of the two will have to go. You could forget about Rodgers being with the Packers long-term either. But with Brohm being a second rounder and paid relatively little, there aren't the whispers or the pressure put on Aaron that there would be had a Notre Dame golden boy first round pick like Quinn been around here. I can buy drafting Quinn only to deal him 15 minutes later. But not to keep.

Re: Wynn released, Harrell to miss at least 6 games
I think having Quinn and Rodgers is a better situation then having a depleted DL. Not sure I like Rodgers being babied every step of the way. Competition is good.

Re: Wynn released, Harrell to miss at least 6 games
DB...Quinn would have had a much lower salary given to where he dropped. It wouldn't have hurt our salary structure at all. And he would have been a couple years behind A-Rod. I think the competition would have been good.
Where I didn't like the Harrell pick was the torn bicep. We learned from the Joe Johnson debacle that if you tear your bicep, it really can be impossible to come back and be an effective interior lineman. That should have been the red flag for TT. I don't think Harrell was a top 5 talent that merely fell because of the injury.

Salary doesn't mean as much as

Nobody (or just about nobody) is going to be clamoring for Brohm. He was second round pick without a ton of hype. The casual fan probably knows Brian Brohm from reputation, maybe, but everybody knows Brady Quinn. At least Rodgers should get the benefit of the doubt for a year or two. With Quinn he might get three games from the Lambeau masses.
