Preseason Game 4: Titans/Packers

Post#1 » by MickeyDavis » Thu Aug 28, 2008 9:51 pm

I've never seen tickets so cheap even for a preseason game, in the last 20 years. In fact I know a lot of people giving them away. Granted, the starters don't play much and it's a Thursday night. There was a ticket broker on Homer's show earlier this week trying to get rid of tickets way below face value.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

5 competions to watch - barring injuries

3rd & final HB - Lumpkin & Morency. Herron is solid but ain't really in it. Lumpkin is likely to be signed by another team if tried to be placed ob PS. Unless he flops younger guy takes it. Maybe we could get a 6th or 7th rd pick for VM?

8th & 9th OL - Moll, Beno & Costin. IF Moll plays half decent he's on. Then its Beno vs Costin. Beno is likely to be signed by another team if Pack tries to place on PS. Some dependance on severity of Wells and Sitton injury status at cut down. IF both guys miss opener Costin''s experience may force Pack to keep him over Beno.

9th & final DB - Bush & Peprah. Culver is long shot. Because of his verasatilty and being ST gunner - Bush has edge. Pep is a big hitter but missing game due to injury robs him of his last chance to show it. Pep makes it if Bush really sucks or if team keeps 10 - I doubt that with injuries on OL & DL.

3 backup LBs - Pack have 4 worthy LBs and will keep 3 of Chillar, White, Hodge, Bishop. White is on b/c of excellence & leadership on ST. Bishop is being tried at Will LB. IF Hodge & Bishop both look good I'd trade Chillar. That WON'T happen. Maybe Hodge is traded?

I couldn't tell if Rodgers was really lucky or really good on that TD pass.

Can't beat that start. :)

I have no faith in the friggin Nick Collins...

Some of the backups playing with intensity, as expected.

Desmond Bishop looks to have won himself a roster spot. Dude is full of piss and vinegar tonight.

We might actually have to many good LBs haha.

Thats obviously a good problem to have, our LBs this year wil be like our D-Line last, very deep and very talented.

Barnett,Hawk,Popinga,Hodge,Bishop,Chillar all those guys are solid.

With depth being an issue on the d-line the Packers should/hopefully use the depth at LB to their advantage and play more 3-4 this year.

Flynn in already. Brohm with a less than stellar preseason. I assume he may get more reps later.

I don't see it happening. They aren't going to give up on Brohm a second round pick this early and I actually think Flynn may be the backup. If anything, there is no way they can sneak him on to the practice squad.

By no means am I suggesting we give up on Brohm. He's raw, it's gonna take some time. He's defintely not NFL ready.

Cuy bait now - Trade Brohm to any non-NFC North team for a 3rd. - Sign vet. - Develop Flynn.
Of course won't happen.

The Packers definatly need to bring in a vet back up QB,if Rodgers go down for any length of time we are done.

The thing about it is that the Packers have a solid team that will have a chance to do some damage in the NFC this season but that all goes down the drain if Rodgers gets hurt.It would be different if the Packers didnt have a have team that could make noise.

You need a vet in there that can move the ball for a few games if Rodgers goes down.I'd hate for us to be sitting at like 7-2 with fighting for the div and homefield and have Rodgers go down a few games and then when he comes back we are fighting to hang on to a wild card spot.

"Raw" is usually an adjective applied to a prospect who has all the tools, but doesn't have the experience and understanding to put them together at this juncture. Brohm is the opposite of raw. He played all 4 years at Louisville and was considered somewhat of a prodigy coming into to college. He has just reached a level where he can't get away with his lack of tools anymore.

I'd fully support cutting Brohm.....then again I didn't think he was any good in the first place. I'm judging both Brohm and Flynn from the same starting point, basically, and from said starting point Flynn is clearly more promising. That said I'll risk losing him for nothing in order to have some insurance at QB. I have faith in Rodgers and he's going to be our starter for a very long time. The best value Flynn could ever be to us is as a backup. Even if he projects as a starter in the future, no team is going to give us significant trade value seeing as though he'll still be somewhat of a unknown in that role, and given what little value he'll have to us.

That Corey Williams trade keeps looking like crap.

Brohn is going to get cut. He by no means has any business playing NFL Football at least at this point. I say we cut him and pick up a vetern backup or place him on the practice squad if we can

Then again you were adamant about wanting to keep Favre for one year over a potential 10-15 bright future with Rodgers, so I don't put much stock in this comment. I was more thinking out loud than giving a choice.

Yeah I'm biased against Rodgers and will criticize everything he does. Or I was just stating the obvious. Tennessee blew the coverage and we were lucky to get a TD instead of a pick.
