I was shocked after reading this.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=AiL5c9isfe0xOTj5Ap.4__s5nYcB?slug=ap-titans-young&prov=ap&type=lgnsNASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP)—The mother of Titans quarterback Vince Young said he indicated he doesn’t want to play football and is “hurting inside and out.”
Felicia Young said in Wednesday editions of The Tennessean that her son is tired of all the negativity he’s faced after being booed during a 17-10 win Sunday over Jacksonville. On Monday, Titans coach Jeff Fisher called police to help find him.
“What would you think, if you were tired of being ridiculed and persecuted and talked about and not being treated very well, what would you do? What kind of decision would you make?” Felicia Young said “He may not want to deal with it (all), but you have to get to that point before you make that decision first.
“But we’re not talking about football right now. We’re talking about what would make him happy, and that is the most important thing.”
The phone number for Young’s home is unlisted, and his agent, Major Adams, did not answer his cell phone Wednesday morning. The Titans did not immediately return a message left by The Associated Press.
This isn’t the first time that Young has talked of wanting to quit football. He told a reporter last spring that he thought of retiring after his rookie season, a statement he said later was taken out of context.
Tennessee Titans quarterback V…
AP - Sep 8, 7:49 pm EDT
The No. 3 pick overall in the 2006 draft, Young won the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and followed up by helping the Titans reach the playoffs last season with a 10-6 record. He has been criticized for his passing struggles, with nine touchdowns and 17 interceptions in 2007.
His mental state has been in question since being booed Sunday after his second interception during the Jacksonville game. He didn’t want to go back into the game until prodded by Fisher.
He sprained the medial collateral ligament in his left knee four plays later and could be out for up to four weeks. Fisher said Tuesday night he is only ruling Young out for Sunday’s game at Cincinnati.
Young didn’t go to the team’s offices Monday and postponed his MRI exam until Tuesday. He met with a psychologist at his home Monday along with Fisher and another team official.
Four hours of uncertainty followed Monday night when Young left his home without his phone, prompting someone at his home to call Fisher. He called police to help find the quarterback and had a meeting late Monday night with Young and police crisis negotiators at the team’s headquarters.
Young later drove home.
Felicia Young said her son needs some space.
“It is hard, all he is going through right now. He’s hurting inside and out,” she told the newspaper.
“But he will be fine if people are prayerful and help my baby boy out. He is a young man. He just needs a lot of love and support.”
I feel bad for the guy and everything, but didn't he expect to get booed at some point? Turnbow never even went this far, and he's the most fragile person mentally Wisconsin sports fans have seen in a long while.
It makes me appreciate Rodgers that much more. If he was as fragile as Young, he would have retired before the season started.
Now granted, there may be other problems behind the scenes that the AP isn't aware of, but this is going strictly based off of the info we have.

It's unfortunate for him and the NFL, but I have a hard time feeling sorry for a guy who gets paid 70 million dollars to play football. It's great to see a guy who has that much heart, but at the same time he's significantly lacking mental toughness.

I do remember in a 60 minutes interview after he won OROY he said that he was the best quarterback in the game.
Didn't they find a gun in his car yesterday too when he reported to Titans facilities? I heard that on 96.5 this morning

I'd get depressed too if all I had to throw to was Justin McCareins, Brandon Jones, Chris Davis, Justin Gage, Lavelle Hawkins and Paul Williams. That's six wide receivers and only 100 catches between them all last season. Obviously there's much more at issue here, but if Ron Wolf were the Titan's GM he'd be ashamed to give a talented QB so little to throw to.

I'm sorry, but he's the QB. You've got to be mentally tough to play the position. For Fisher to have to talk this guy back into going on the field is a joke. I hope he retires and has to give back that bonus he stole from Tennessee. When he's broke in a couple years we'll see how bad he wants to play football.

Wow, the guy sure is an emotional one. When he does get back on the field, I can only imagine the insults opponents will throw his way. His spirit will be broken all over again.

Could you imagine if he was in Aaron Rodgers shoes this offseason? He would've cracked ages ago.

Yep. He needs to grow a pair.

Vince Young simply is not a good NFL QB.

Well if he was considering retiring after his rookie year as the article mentioned, there may be problems further than just being hurt by boos. Not trying to totally clear the guy here but issues like depression aren't completely avoidable, even for a mega-star.
He might just not be cut out for QB, however there might be some stuff going on with him that isn't helping him out too much.

He is the 2nd coming of Ricky Williams without the dope.

Eddie George was blasting him last night saying after he threw that interception he just started freaking out on the sideline. Head in his hands, wouldn't talk to anyone, the OC was trying to talk some sense back into him and get him back on the field. When the team went on the field, he said he didn't want to go.
I mean, if I was a teammate of his, I would have zero confidence in him. He's not a guy you can go to war with. I don't see him lasting too long in this league if he can't handle getting booed and now his momma is defending him in the media. Bulletin board material, d-lineman material, whatever you call it, I would tell him mom to keep her thoughts to herself or her son is going to his whooped whenever he returns to the field.

I have to believe his mom's thoughts were genuine, and her heart was in the right place. but she has no clue as to how much damage going public did for the public image of her son. his tea m members and coaches obviously knew of his depression problems. now, the entire world knows. and when it comes to stuff like this, it doesn't go away, it only gets blown out of proportion until the next OJ trial or michael jackson sighting.
Imagine what would happen if Miley Cyrus admitted to having sex. an entire Disney created empire would crumble. The NFL has created the vince Young image and placed it on one of its higher pedistals. and now Vince has to try to live up to the hype the NFL created. I can understand the pychological problems he must be facing. But they are not any greater than those faced by Matt Linart or Archie Griffin. Sometimes a great college career doesn't translate to success in the NFL. Young definitely needs help. but he doesn't need the additional media attention his family just generated..

You guys are crazy he left the house to get away and eat some Chicken. I would be frustrated to if I was Vince.
1. He took the weak @$$ Titans to the playoffs.
2. He got freakin boo'ed when they won the game.
3. Mother over sentive don't act like your own mother never over react
4. When he said he wanted to retire it was so he can focus on his family. (LMAO like Brett was suppose to)
5. He threw an INT so what wouldn't you be P.O'ed if you did too.Come I'm with you guy's for Rodgers but Pack fans can't call someone sensitve.
*Brett Favre cried at a conference when he thought he was going to retire. Then got angry when the team moved on.
*AR got upset and was bothered for short period of time because little children were cussing him out.
*Everyone saying AR said everything right but seems to forget the comments of the likes of "If your not with me then move on" (Which I highly liked but the media must been paid off to forget that statment).
You also can't make the arguement Brett and AR never let it play on the field because it's the same for Vince. He may not be a blueprint for QB's but if the team is winning there is nothing wrong.
High Level of Overeaction. Man I hope the media does not try to destroy his career.
Please GB fans don't go there

He didn't want to go back on the field after that INT. There's absolutely no defense of that. Once you need to be begged to go back out there you're useless in my opinion.

1. You are actually DEFENDING Young's actions? The guy threw an INT, big deal, every QB does it. No need to turn into a pussy over it.
2. Who the hell are you?

1. You are actually DEFENDING Young's actions? The guy threw an INT, every QB does it. Quit sulking on the sidelines and go back out there and make up for that bad pass. No need to turn into a pussy over it, his teammates saw that, they're going to lose confidence in him.
2. Who the hell are you?

Also eventaully got hurt so we see how that went going on. Must not have been ready.
2.I'm New Era, who hell are you

. I'm only posted around here because I'm keeping track of AR this season. I want badly for this guy to have success to shut up the Bret or Nothing fans. Means alot coming from a primary Eagles fans.
Back on Topic:
I'm just stating some of the conclusions (media) made about Vince is kind of rushed. I'm not saying should not have a warriors heart at QB, but some comments (around the media) were a little extreme.
I mean if any team would understand scrunity of a QB I thought it would be you guys.
Again not sayin VY is a pure saint but some the attention paid to him over little things are insane.
Plus when did Vince become the face of the NFL I thought Brady, Mannings(sp), and Favre held that title.

I think that the lack of empathy for a player that is suffering from a disease the same as any other human being is disgusting.
Just because he makes money he shouldn't be allowed to suffer from depression? Do you know the shelf life of a player like Vince Young? This guy is the poster boy for multiple MCL and ACL injuries. All this guy does is run around the field with an average offense and propel them to victory, and he has done similarly with average offensive teams his whole life. He is a game changer. He has played through pain. Now he has a bad game, gets booed, gets injured, and all of this is coupled with a depression episode and you have the cajones to say he doesn't have the toughness because he makes money?
Maybe you haven't seen someone go through depression and actually discuss killing themselves, but I have seen it first hand in my nuclear family, and it is not just something you can power through because you make money. I think that anyone that makes the assertion is ignorant to the real issues.
I hope that Vince Young finds the help he needs. He has a bright future in the NFL.
