I don't really buy it, I actually like the Packers underutilyzed TE's and the major need is on the DL.

What would be the point of bringing in Gonzo? The problem isn't the offense and it's not like Rodgers has any lack of targets to throw to.

Charley Casserly on CBS said KC wants a #3. Jay Glazer said they want a #2 and a #6.

If they want that much then I definitely want to pass.

It will take a pretty high draft pick to get Gonzo. If we're going to give up a high draft pick, it'd better be spent on the defense. I'd either want a defensive tackle (why hasn't anyone picked up Rod Coleman? I realize he's declined but he'd be fine in a rotation and on passing downs, IMO) or I'm also a proponent of going after Lito Sheppard as long as he doesn't want to be in Philly. He'd fit our system pretty well.

If all it takes is a 3rd round pick for Tony, we should be ALL over this.

We are one of the few teams in the league that has the cap room to pull this off.

You can use an elite Tight end to help make up for a bad running game.

Does this answer all our line problems on O and D? No, of course not. But the value we'd get as a team the next two years is far greater than what we'd likely get from a 3rd round pick in 2009.

One thing that they could improve on in the offense is use some Trickeration in their plays. I once in a while want to see a direct snap to a RB, or a RB or WR throw a pass. They barely even use a screen pass anymore. Its just gotten too vanilla.

I'm pretty indifferent to "trick" and "gadget" plays in general, but I don't think this team has the personnel to pull those kinds of things off. The one thing that I see in the offense that is troublesome and is no doubt hurting our running game is that we ALWAYS run out of some sets and ALWAYS pass out of other sets. This was incredibly evident during the Dallas game, where we'd go shotgun and 3 or 4 wide and NEVER ran the ball out of any of those sets and anytime we only had 2 wide, we'd ALWAYS run the ball. Meanwhile, Dallas was having great success running and throwing on us out of the exact same set because they had our defense on its heels. They'd run that draw, then fake the draw, and do other creative things all out of the same set. I understand that's easier to do when you have the lead, but I think you get my point.

If we can get him for a 3rd, do it. We're going to have either 2 3rds or 2 2nds, and Gonzalez is going to help us more than anyone we get at those spots. Why not make a great passing offense even better?

I'd give up a third rounder if he blocks well besides being great in the passing game. None of our tight ends are much at blocking, plus Gonzalez should have a few good years left.

It never hurts to have two good TE's.

Is Tony still any good? I he worth a 3rd at his age of 32?

Major Dad, noted TT hater, Gonzo is signed for this year and 2 more, so 4 good years left is a stretch, more likely 2.5.

That said, I'd still take Gonzo, but would prefer to trade someone like finley vs. our draft picks for teh next few years, as I feel you're going to see some pretty deep drafts and with the CBA uncertainty, it will be nice to have those guys locked up for a few years.

I personally happen to love James Jones and Jason Spitz is the only really steady interior lineman we have - and I (along with a lot of other people) am still very high on Aaron Rouse. Are any of those guys as good as Gonzo? No, but that's not the point. If this offense was sputtering and Rodgers was having trouble moving the ball, I'd say go for it, but our passing game is fine and Rodgers is on pace to account for 37+ TDs this season on 11 INTs, Favre-ian numbers minus a few picks.

I was speaking of gonzo's potential pro career. i think he still has 4 good years left.

But we all knew acquiring Gonzo would have required Tt to give away two of his most prized possessions - draft picks, and money from his little piggy bank. We had plenty of money we could have spent. We are nowhere close to the cap. My guess is KC demanded at least a 5th round choice which was too steep for TT to part with.

i knew when i read that article, there was no way TT was going to make that trade. it was too logical. if he wouldn't part wit h a 4th for moss, no wa y would he even thin k of parting with a thid round pick. TT's in love with those draft choices, so he can use them t o trade down. one year i fully expect Tt to continuously trade down so that he owns the entire 7th round. that would be sooooo like tT to have 32 7th round picks.
