Will McCarthy Be Fired?

Suppose we finish 7-9, or somewhere thereabouts, does McCarthy get the ax from TT? I tend to think that he doesn't, but I wouldn't be surprised if Murphy goes to TT and gives him an ultimatum to fire MM or clean out his desk.

Discuss.

After one poor season? Are you kidding?

I don't think he should be, let me make that clear. I think the blame rests with his coaching staff and with TT. But, someone is going to take some heat for how this season played out, and MM has made some poor decisions thus far. Also, taking such a step back from a 13-3 season to an 8-8, 7-9, 6-10, or whatever season we have could have the vultures circling.

And you know he'll be on quite a hot seat to start next season, regardless.

No chance. Bob Sanders is done though.

Ray Rhodes was fired after going 8-8, Mike Sherman had 5 winning seasons and was then fired after his only losing season. 8-)

But since they signed him to a 5 year, $20 million extension, he's not going anywhere. The jury is still out on MM. He's 1-3 in making the playoffs. $4 million a year doesn't buy as much as it used to

Indeed, it's not like the Packers haven't made these decisions before. And, with the drama which served as a precursor to this season, I wouldn't be shocked if he got canned.

If we lose again next year TT might try to throw MM under the bus to save his own job.

McCarthy will be back next year guaranteed. Stock and Sanders will both be on the unemployment line. I would love to see a new play caller but that ain't gonna happen.

Ray Rhodes had zero control over the lockroom and Wolfe saw that, Mike Sherman was fired as GM and there was no way he could co-exsists with a new GM. No Way McCarthy goes but he better adjust his staff or he will be in major trouble next year.

Murphy, Thompson, and McCarthy seem to all be on the same page with eachother, i'd say if we falter again next season then Yes.

Looks like Holgren might wanna coach next year. I'd take him over MM. Hell I'd give him all 3 jobs just to get those **** heads out of Green Bay.

Agreed. MM's job is safe for another year but he will be forced to let some of his staff go. Although I really hope TT realizes that the lines need some major retooling and that he works on them first and foremost in the off season because the talent and depth at those positions is the real problem. Although I would not doubt if the Bears suck again next year and the Pack is good again next year since this league is very fickle and things change very quickly. It only takes a few plays from the Packers and Bears going the other way this year for example that our standings would be totally reversed.

I doubt that McCarthy will need to be forced to cut ties with Sanders and likely Stock also. Comments he's made the last few weeks leads me to believe the he knows a coaching change on defense is needed and inevitable.

Regardless of how highly fans feel about Thompson, i gotta believe that everyone can safely assume that TT can see a talent upgrade along the front seven is badly needed for this team to have any playoff hopes for next season. The offensive line obviously needs to be addressed also, but to a lesser degree. Unless we switch to a 3-4, i'd have DT as the most pressing need for a talent upgrade.

I think MM is a very good head coach and its way to premature to talk about firing him after this season. With that said pro sports is a bottomline bussiness so if the right changes arent made and the Packers have another 7-9 or worse type season in 2009 then MM will probably have to go.

I think most Packer fans would have been very happy and satisfied with a 10-6 type record this season,6-10 or 7-9 is unacceptable.Antyime a team goes from 13-3 to 6-10 or 7-9 with pretty much the same roster all critical eyes are going to be on the head coach and staff and rightfully so.

We can argue what our record should have or could have been this season but I think 90% of us would agree this team should be better than 5-8 right now. When you have the talent to win games and you're not winning games you have to look at whats going on at the top.

I'd love Holmgren here but that won't happen.

I know it'll be embarrassing for us, but if we seriously want these clowns fired, we need to lose to Detroit. Someone would absolutely lose their job if that happened (most likely Sanders and Stock), but McCarthy and Thompson would immediately be on the hot seat. Then if we don't perform next year, one or both of them will get canned.

i really dont think its fair to fire mccarthy after the most turbulent offseason in green bay packers history. give him one more year. if we still suck after next season then he gets the axe.

Lose out. Period.

Firing Mike McCarthy should have nothing to do with this season, it has a lot more to do with the fact that he is the worst offensive coordinator in the league. For a west coast offense guru, he is a bit of a moron.

They have the 4th highest scoring offense in the NFL. He must be doing something right.

They are abandoning the run in the 4th. If he was going to run that kind of offense and just have 4 WR on the field the whole time, then he should consider himself a run and shoot coach. Instead he runs inane 3 running back sets.

Our offense is incredibly talented. An incredibly talented offense is going to score regardless of coach, but with the right coach we could be the best offense in the league. I think that McCarthy is hurting our offense, not helping it.
