Adding a Veteran DE?

I heard the rumors about adding Holiday back to the roster and/or that guy from Carolina.

Do you guys think we should do this?

I would be a huge fan of adding either one of these guys... A defensive line of Jenkins/Raji/Holiday with Pickett rotating in could be great, in my opinion.

For the right price I'd be happy w/ Holiday or Carter. Pickett may start over either.

I think Jenkins-Raji-Pickett are the starters barring injury or Harrell comes back from the dead.

I would have no interest in one of the older DEs.

I thought the Packers had interest in those guys for a while, but they also didn't think that Raji would be at #9 for them, and they believe he can play all 3 spots on the line, so their interest in one of those older guys ought to be greatly diminished now.

I'd be fine with it. I haven't been paying a lot of attention so far, but I think Harrell's status is still up in the air and so is the status of the Jolly suspension. Having another experienced player certainly wouldn't hurt, and they'd come cheap.

I know you guys will think I'm crazy but I honestly believe that Montgomery is perfect for this system provided he can get to between 280-290 lbs. He's my pick to break out this year (though I suppose he has to make the team first, ha).

I was right on Collins last season when I said he was my top choice to break out. That should give me some cred. 8-)

Yep

Depth is never a bad thing as we saw last season when we had crappy depth on the DL and got burned by it. It's not like if we signed either Carter or Holliday, it would be at big contract.

I'd like to see Holiday back with the Packers, he still could provide some solid (needed) depth.

I'll back DB up on Montgomery a little bit,I don't know if I would pick him as my break out player personally but Montgomery has shown some nice flashes.Montgomery strikes me as the type of guy capable of ''breaking out'' if he gets his chance.

On the subject of break out players for 2009 that's an interesting topic,I think i'd go with Jordy Nelson and on D maybe Pat Lee.Pat Lee might be a great choice for 2010 though not sure how much PT he's going to get this year barring injuries..

LUKE23 wrote:I assume others will have variances, just thought we'd look quick at what the Packers roster looks like. Of this draft class, I think Raji, Matthews, Lang, Meredith, Johnson, and Underwood all make it. Here is my prediction:

QB (3): Rodgers/Brohm/Flynn
RB (3): Grant/Jackson/Wynn
FB (2): Hall/Johnson
WR (5): Jennings/Driver/Jones/Nelson/Martin
TE (3): Lee/Finley/Humphrey
OL (9): Clifton/Colledge/Spitz/Sitton/Giacomini/Lang/Meredith/Barbre/Preston

DL (6): Jenkins/Pickett/Raji/Harrell/Jolly/Montgomery
LB (8): Matthews/Barnett/Hawk/Kampman/Poppinga/Thompson/Chillar/Hunter
DB (11): Harris/Woodson/Williams/Blackmon/Lee/Bigby/Collins/Rouse/Bush/Underwood/Smith
Specialists (3): Crosby/Kapinos/Goode

I was looking at it and 11 DB's seems like too many, so maybe Bush or Rouse goes there, but I really think Underwood makes the team. 6 DL may not seem like enough, but I don't know who else is worth keeping there barring adding Carter or Holliday.

Depth is always nice. But we only get 53 spots. Let say we get Holiday. Who do we cut from LUKES23 53 man prejected depth chart on his topic? Cut a DB? TE?

My break out player was Jackson. Damn you MM for limiting carries.

I would say that Justin Harrell looks like an excellent fit at DE in the 3-4. If he can keep himself on the field, he could probably lock up a position there. I think that the line is going to see a rotation of Harrell, Pickett, Raji, and Jenkins almost exclusively. Jolly is going to have to prove that he is in gaming shape when he comes back from the suspension he is likely to get.

I would prefer to have a 5th player, since we seem to have a great history of injuries in our front 4 (And now 3). I would like to bring in Kevin Carter.
