His salary isn't too bad this season and we do need a lot of LB's. I'm not a big fan but he plays hard. We have plenty of cap space. I'd keep him around and look to replace him next year when is salary goes up.

I wouldn't completely rule him out yet, at least not till we see him and everyone else perform in pads. Every year he works his way into a starting role. Last year he was penciled in as a backup behind Chillar as well.

Yep. Unless we need his roster spot for a promising youngster, there is no point in cutting him since his salary isn't all that high anyway.

We've seen what he can do as a pass rusher.. nothing. Bye! I'd much rather save the money and allow a younger "prospect" get a chance to make the roster.

Yup, if its between hin and Jones Id rather have the young guy as a backup and see if he thrives, Poppinga doesnt do much for me

It's not fair to evaluate any of our linebackers as pass rushers based on what they did in the Bates/Sanders scheme.

Someone has to take his place on the roster if Poppinga was waived. So even if it was a minimum salary rookie, you're then talking about saving about 1.5 million. Unless the rookie clearly looks to have better upside, i fail to see what saving 1.5 million does for the team.

Like MD said we need alot of linebackers. I think about 10. Also need spare guys for insurance cause of injuries. Look last season when we lost Barnett and Hawk was dinged up and wasnt 100%. I know Bishop is the next stud to emerge as a starter soon.
