How bad is our special teams unit?

Detroit creeping up on us in the standings if they can beat Seattle today.

So much of what is wrong with this team comes down to terrible coaching. We're implementing a 3-4 with the wrong personnel, we lead the league in penalties, Special Teams has been consistently terrible under McCarthy, etc. I understand we have deficiencies on the offensive line, and Rodger's internal clock is non-existent, but it falls on MM to adjust the game plan. Not only has he refused to adjust the protection scheme, but we continue to shotgun on 1st down, run 5 and 7 step drops, and play action on obvious passing downs. It's infuriating.

Can we please get some OL in free agency next year. And draft a damn kick returner/playmaker.
And a runningback while we are it.

I'm also a huge Saints fan right now.

The only thing stopping Brent from a BS Super Bowl.

Eh, I think Ted Thompson needs to go. Clean the house out. We've still got a good enough situation with Rodgers that we might be able to attract a really good GM.

I'm not asking this rhetorically, but how many times has a powerhouse team been held back because of a bad coach? i.e., Where have their been situations where teams are loaded with talent and it all came together once the incomptent coach was replaced with a top tier coach?

It rarely happens if ever, because the top their coaches don't move very often. The only semi-reasonable example I can think of off the top of my head is Bill Parcells.

+1. Seeing the Saints destroy them will be the only thing that helps me forget what a wasted season this was.

Some might argue the Cowboys with Wade Phillips. Or the Chargers with Shottenheimer and Norv Turner.

You'd usually expect a pretty good team like the Giants to regroup and use this as a motivation factor.

I expect everybody but a few guys to absolutely fold under McCarthy.

Thompson needs to go more so than McCarthy. McCarthy is not the one who failed to bring in players that fit your scheme and McCarthy is not the one who refuses to address a putrid offensive line.

Tom Pipines: "Where is Ted Thompson? He should be up there facing these questions instead of Mike McCarthy!"

Free Agency???? Only way that's going to happen is if TT gets fired.
And MM, when the season ends, and the train is ready to leave the station, I hope your fat as is on it.
TT and MM have ruined this franchise.

Name a worthwhile offensive lineman other than Steve Hutchinson that has ever hit the free agent market.

We need someone in here that is going to teach discipline and hold players accountable. We have too much talent to be 4-4 and if it means Thompson has to go too, so be it. Get Holmgren back here to run the show.
