Woodson to be named NFC defensive player of the month

By Tom Silverstein of the Journal Sentinel
Dec. 2, 2009 3:24 p.m.

Green Bay -- Cornerback Charles Woodson is about to be two for three this season.

A league source said that Woodson will be named NFC defensive player of the month of November on Thursday. It's the second time he has won such an honor, receiving defensive player of the month honors in Septermber as well.

Woodson had quite the month.

In five games, he had 28 tackles, two sacks, three interceptions, seven passes broken up, three forced fumbles and a touchdown. In those five games, the Packers went 3-2.

Winning the award twice should provide some momentum for Woodson earning NFC defensive player of the year honors.

He was so good he should be named AFC defensive player of the month too.

Screw that. He should have been NBA's Western Conference POTM.

From
Mike Signora's (NFL Director of Media Relations) twitter:

Charles Woodson is 1st player ever to win 2 NFC Defensive Player of Month awards in same season

I think he has to be the front runner for the DPOY.

I just saw this as well. I think you have to give it to him.

The Packers need to try to hype him up somehow. Hopefully the ESPN guys talk about how great he is on Monday.

Barring a season ending injury or a catastrophic downturn in production, I'd have to think Woodson is driving the DPOY bus at this point.

In things equally shocking, I would bang the living hell out of Elisha Cuthbert if I could.

If the Queens finish 15-1 Allen will likely be DPOY.

Doubt it.

7.5 sacks against us, 5 in the other 10 games.

I agree with you, but most of the people who will be voting for this sort of thing will either see only his sack total or will look at the 7.5 sacks in the two games against us as two great performances against the only real competition in the division. Between the Lions, Bears, and Packers, three of the bottom ten offensive lines in football are in this division. He should have at least 12 sacks at this point...

Agree, unfortunately.
