Poll: Which young player?

Post#1 » by PkrsBcksGphsMqt » Tue Dec 8, 2009 8:19 am

All four of these guys had big plays tonight. I'm really excited about all of them, but I thought it would be interesting to see who everyone thinks will be the best.

I think Clay Matthews personally, only because he seems to be the most driven of the four to be great, but that's not to say that any of those 4 are at all lazy by any stretch of the imagination. Finley would probably be 2nd for me - if he can stay healthy - because he probably has the most raw ability of those 4 and it seems that he still has yet to really scratch the surface in terms of polishing his game.

Yeah I was back and fourth with Finley and Matthews. I think Finely has more raw talent than Matthews, but Finley has been had more injuries.

Finley has a chance to be the best TE in the game at one point in his career

The choice between Finley and Matthews is tough and i am ecstatic with their potential, but ultimately, i went with Raji. Tonight's game i think is just a preview of whats to come from him. Since he's been getting regular playing time, i've seen his production improve every week. I think when he has a full training camp and off-season under his belt, we will really start to see what he can do. Plus, it usually takes D-lineman 2-3 years before they really start hitting their stride in the NFL.

I agree, the choice between Matthews and Finley is tough for me too, they both have potential to be dominating. And, I'm not saying he should be on this list, because he hasn't done much yet, but Jones really is showing signs that he could be a solid player for us as well, I wouldn't be surprised to see him starting next year. Looks like Thompson ended up with a pretty decent draft class this year (at least it looks that way now, but I understand it's still early in their careers).

For as average to poor as TT has drafted on the lines, he's really done well in the other areas for the most part. This past draft alone might have given us three defensive starters (personally I'd like a bigger OLB than Jones, but I think he can be a passable starter and can generate pass rush), and Finley is a game changer at TE.

We need a good LT prospect, another DB, and I'd like another OLB as well.

If I had to choose one, I guess Finley... I think they are all pro-bowl level players in the future though.

If TT can fix up the offensive line, we are going to be a very, very good team.

Finley, I just think there's too few guys that can match up with him size wise and physically. Ed Reed probably could , but no linebackers can match his athleticism and few DB's can match up with his size

I find this poll very encouraging because Collins, a guy who has already made the Pro Bowl and is one of the better safeties in football, doesn't even have a vote. :D

I know Collins ain't old but the other guys are rookies or 2nd year. This is Collins 5th yr?
IF Collins is on list then so should Rodgers as they were drafted same year. Then I choose Aaron.
(I do think we're very good w/ Nick at one S)

But aside from that its great that we have multiple young players that have so much upside. I think all 3 on your list will be great. Raji's gonna shine massively next year. You gotta love Matthews motor. But if he stays healthy Finley will get the most press b/c he'll be catching so many crucial passes and touchdowns.

The next level down - 1st & 2nd yr players - Sitton, Lang & Brad Jones show real promise.
I like Nelson but he's still has to show it.
Quinn Johnson is still only potential. Jarius Wynn may show huge strides in next camp.

As for 3rd/4th yr guys-
Jolly is playing at a very high level.
James Jones & Tramon are good but inconsistent. They need to step it up a notch to be considered solid.
Jackson is thriving as 3rd down back which has real value but question if he can ever be a #1 RB.
Hawk is solid if unexciting and that may be it. But he still has a chance to become an impact player as he settles into new D but the window is closing.

Finley for me. In a few years he will be the #1 tight end in the league. Clay is close though cause getting 7 sacks, 2 FF, 3 Recoveries, and 1 TD is pretty damn impressive for a rookie.

I agree, and who knows? Looking at Brad Jones, a full off season in an NFL weight program might really transform him. I suspect he won't be nearly as lean looking by next season.

Yeah, I left Aaron off the poll because he is such a no brainer.

I'll go with Matthews too, but Finley and Raji are close. I'm excited about all of these guys.

All of these guys have bright futures ahead of them (and Collins has already been to a probowl), but ultimately I went with Matthews because of how well he's played especially in the past 8 weeks (has paced the team with 6 sacks and many more pressures). I think we all know the season stats by now, so I won't reiterate them. I think he's got a bright, bright future. Sooooo glad he's a Packer.

These two looked mighty good on the outside...

I voted for Matthews because he plays the run and pass so well already and as someone mentioned before he has the drive to want to be great!! I personally wish we could sign these guys all to long term deals

I voved Raji but he and Clay are 1a and 1b.

The most exciting thing is when you strike gold on 1st rounders it leads to championship caliber squads..

TT did that two-fold this past draft. Players like this just make guys like Harrell and afterthought.

This Defense is only going to get better. Gotta get younger in the secondary.

Matthews is #4 in ESPN's rookie rankings and Raji is #10. 2 of the top 10 rookies ain't bad.
