The Official CUT MASON CROSBY Thread

Post#1 » by LarryHarris » Tue Dec 15, 2009 4:40 pm

He is only 5/12 from 40+ yards (1/5 from 50+). He seems to be getting less confident as the season goes along. He has a big leg but has been terribly inaccurate. He seems to have a knack for missing big field goals that could put a game away. Someone tell me, is there anything to like about this guy?

Really, as a whole, the special teams unit has been awful all season. Great teams have great special teams. I wouldn't mind seeing a new kicker and punter next year... Crosby is just infuriating.

And this thread is really going to get him cut haha right.

But i do agree, he has been bad this year. I doubt he will be back with team next year.

No point in making a change now, but I would definitely evaluate it over the offseason.

He hasn't cost us a game yet this year. But he will.

Even though I thought it was the wrong decision and we might lose it anyways, I think if he hits that one vs. Minnesota we might have a shot to win.

As much as Crosby sucks, who do we replace him with?

Chuck can kick FG's until we are able to draft Nick Toon.

I know it isn't smart, but right now I'm for about anyone. It isn't like there are only 32 men in the world who can kick FGs and there is a huge drop off to no. 33. Once your kickers inability to convert changes your game-plan, it is time for the kicker to go...

Just shanked one against Pittsburgh.... sure you aren't ready to cut him now?

I can't see him being on the team next year. No way.

Even Crosby is starting to wonder:

Mason Crosby is officially perplexed. And he said he needs to make those "if I'm still here."

The crazy thing about Crosby is all his misses are the exact same thing. He never shanks it, it's just wide right by a few feet every damn time.

When you have a great kicker like a Longwell, Jason Hanson, etc, you simply pay the $1.5 to $2.5 million it costs to keep him. The kicker seems to determine at least 3-4 games a year in an average NFL season. Bad kicker and you could go 0-4 in those games. Great kicker and you're 3-1 or 4-0.

Wasn't it 2004 when we finished 10-6 and Longwell hit four straight game winners or something like that? Put Crosby in there and we finish that year 7-9 or 6-10.
