Woodson named Defensive Player of the Year
By The Associated Press
Jan. 12, 2010 9:20 a.m. | New York - Green Bay cornerback Charles Woodson has won The Associated Press 2009 NFL Defensive Player of the Year award.

The versatile Woodson tied for the league lead with nine interceptions, returning three for touchdowns, and was a key to the Packers' turnaround on defense. His role in Green Bay's ranking second in overall defense, first in interceptions (30), takeaways (40) and turnover margin (plus-24) earned Woodson 28 votes from a nationwide panel of 50 sports writers and broadcasters who cover the NFL.

He doubled the number of votes for New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis in becoming the first Green Bay winner since Reggie White in 1998 and just the second Packer in the 36-year history of the award.

Well outside of the possibility of TT winning executive of the year this is pretty much the official end of the Packers season. I guess we do have several prominent guys going in the Pro Bowl so I might actually watch it for our players plus it being the week before the Super Bowl helps. I'm personally ready to close a book on this one. I haven't listened to the radio or watched any sportscenter or any of that since the end of the game. The only sports I've watched since Sunday are the 2 Bucks games.

He needs to stay out of the Pro Bowl. The last thing we need is some freak injury to him.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Woodson probably doesn't even care right now, but he'll be proud of it later in his career.

I wouldn't care if all of our guys sat out the Pro Bowl...

Well deserved. It is a blessing to have him on our team and amazing just how good he has become. I also agree, stay home from the pro bowl Woody. Pretty please.

I thought he and Revis were both deserving and to be honest, I'm a little surprised it wasn't a closer vote but good job Woody. I'm sure Revis will have a great chance to win a couple of these in his career. Every time I hear his name I just remember he and Leon Hall being drafted just before Harrelll and I want to cry.

I was worried that our performance on Sunday would cost him the award to Revis, but I'm glad he won. He deserved it.

Love that we have three years left on his deal if we want him. I think he can play at a high level for a couple more years. We need another #2ish corner, so we can have Woodson/pick/Tramon in on the nickel.

CONGRATZ SIR CHARLES !

Definitely deserved the award, feel good to have a corner with his talent on our team. I still think we need a young stud at the DB that can learn from Charles and Harris.

Rex Ryan not happy about Woodson winning, lol...

Rex Ryan thinks Woodson wasn't deserving
By Tom Silverstein of the Journal Sentinel
Jan. 12, 2010 4:39 p.m.

Green Bay -- New York Jets coach Rex Ryan doesn't have a vote for defensive player of the year, but if he did he cornerback Darrelle Revis would have had one more vote than he did.

Ryan stopped short of calling Woodson's selection as a travesty, but he made it clear he thought the panel of 50 sportswriters and broadcasters picked the wrong guy. He said Revis, his star cornerback, did as much for his team as any player in the league.

He was reportedly swearing when he reported the news to Revis that Woodson had 28 votes to his 14.

"I wasn't going to comment on it," Ryan said Tuesday, "but I would like to congratulate the people that voted for Darrelle Revis. These guys obviously really know the game. And you've got to look at all the numbers, not just a number about this, or this stat or that stat.

"A number I think is interesting would be eight. And no, that's not the amount of touchdown passes Green Bay gave up against Arizona. That is the number of touchdown passes we gave up all season. And the biggest reason for that is Darrelle Revis.

"There's plenty of things to look at. We had the No. 1 defense in the National Football League, by 35 yards a game. We were No. 1 in scoring ... basically 187 points is all the defense gave up all season. That might be a consideration for NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

"And it really was for the people that voted for Darrelle Revis. I tip my hat to them because they really know the game. That's all I'm going to say about it."

For his part, Revis said he was OK with the choice of Woodson.

"That's good for him," Revis said. "I actually voted for him. It (winning that award) wasn't on my list of goals. You just try to play the best you can. Just like (Ryan) said, the guys who know real football, they know the type of season I had."

He seems to have trouble keeping his fat mouth shut. I wonder if it could be a medical condition. It's no coincidence the man also weighs 300+ lbs. Seriously, what an ignorant f***.
