Good to know we won't be going into next year with Lang and Barbre at LT and RT. Hopefully we front loaded it.

Good! Basically $9 mil for 1 year.
Now draft a good understudy to start next year (if not later this year if (when) Chad misses time.
Bring back Tausch w/ Lang in understudyy for next year starter.
Kampman's all but gone. You were great Aaron but don't fit anymore. Thanks for the QT.

If the figures reported are correct, the Packers, were able to hammer out a deal that was not exhorbitant. Though Sexton tried to leverage reported interest from the Washington Redskins against the Packers, they were able to keep the guaranteed money at a reasonable level.
If there are no oddities with the contract, they may wind up paying around $8 million for him this year, which would only be a $1.7 million increase over what he made last year. A lot will depend on how the contract is structured. If there's a $7.5 million signing bonus, then Clifton may wind up making $9 or $10 million this year.
Good move.

Yep
The 3yr/20 million dollar figure is pretty much irrelevant. This is basically a 1yr/8-10 million dollar contract unless Ted whiffs in the draft at finding a LT that can start next year.

We definitely need him.

That's a lot but we don't have to worry about cap space and have tons of cash. We have a very good team and can't let next season fall apart because of our OL. Still need some upgrades though.

Whew, I feel like I can breathe again. It seemed logical that Clifton's agent was just playing the Redskins to get top dollar but you can never be too sure these days.

His agent was, but from all the accounts in the paper, it sure sounds like Clifton wanted no part of playing elsewhere unless the Packers completely forced his hand by only making a token offer that was so low he couldn't justify accepting it. It makes sense. Clifton probably knows his playing days are nearing an end and moving to a new team, new city, and a new coaching staff is a major adjustment for a guy with only 1-2 years left. With his last contract and this one, he should be set financially, so possible little extra money wasn't worth moving.
This sure has to be a major relief for Ted and Mike, even if the health of Chad is still a concern. Had he signed with Washington, protecting Aaron's blind side would have to be a big worry until someone else proved hey could do it decently.

I thought it was $20 million guaranteed at first and I was pissed...
Then I saw it was $7.5 guaranteed, $20 overall... I am fine with this deal, we need quality depth at the O-Line and we need it bad.
LT is still a big position of need, IMO. We have to find a replacement eventually... But this should help for (hopefully) the next few years.

I'm kind of hoping Iuputi falls and we take him. Clifton/Iuputi/Spitz/Sitton/Lang I'd be more than comfortable with next year. I'm glad we got this done, the position is too important to go in without a proven guy. Now I just hope Colledge's POS ass isn't back.

Is there any chance that we get Tauscher back as well?
Clifton/Iuputi/Spitz/Lang/Tauscher - with Sitton as the back-up G, Wells at back-up C and Lang as insurance at both tackle spots?

I'd take Tauscher back as well, but I think Sitton's hold on RG is pretty strong, he was easily our best run blocker last year. He might have been our best OL overall actually.
If they got Tauscher back it would probably be Clifton/Tauscher at the tackles with Lang backing up both spots, Spitz/Wells at C, Sitton at RG, then LG to be determined (hopefully not Colledge). Can Lang play LG?

Sitton was our best lineman last year, Lang is vastly overrated around here. Could he be a good O-lineman, no doubt, but he also tied with Barbre in sacks given up while playing a lot less snaps.

Lang was also being constantly moved around and playing at a position that he's not really meant to play in the NFL a lot of the time (LT).
I think Lang has the chance to be a very good player, personally.
But yeah, I guess I do overlook that Sitton was probably our best lineman last year.

Sitton starts no matter what. You have zero depth or future at OT.
I hear M3 wants Tausch back. Not sure bout Ted. They seem to usually agree.

I think Lang is our future at RT... But that's just me.

I agree. You had him at G.

MM and ARod both want Tauscher back, TT not as much. It sucks because I think our line really turned a corner when Tausch came back but I understand the worry of having two aging, expensive tackles. I would've preferred to keep Tauscher over Clifton except that we would absolutely have a massive hole at LT
