Green Bay - Green Bay Packers tight end Spencer Havner was arrested on DUI charges early Saturday morning after getting into a motorcycle accident in his native California, according to a report in the Grass Valley (Calif.) Daily Union.

Havner, 27, allegedly was driving a 2007 Kawasaki motorcycle around the end of a cul-de-sac off Indian Flat Road at about 2:45 a.m., according to a report from the California Highway Patrol. He allegedly lost control and crashed, fracturing his scapula, sustaining lacerations to the back of his head and left arm, as well as multiple abrasions.

Havner was not wearing a helmet, according to police. He was found to be under the influence and arrested at the hospital.

Yikes, I guess I just assumed Havner was crazy, though I don't know why. This verifies it...

It's a stupid and irresponsible thing to do in a car. But on a motorcycle? Ugh.

I just saw this and was going to post a link. Pretty idiotic. I would never get on a crotch rocket much less get on a crotch rocket while intoxicated. He's lucky to be alive. Any idea on how serious this injury is? Will be be back in time for training camp?

Spencer Havner is still the best TE in the NFL. Probably the best player, maybe second to only Brady Poppinga.

Man, you gotta be a real moron to get trashed and then decide to drive a motorcycle. I knew someone that was in a bad motorcycle accident. His femur bone was sticking out of his leg and he skidded a long distance on his back at such a high speed that it pulled his shirt off and skinned his back. The crazy part is as bad as that is, he was lucky to still be alive.

Just to clarify he hasn't been arrested yet and charges aren't even a sure thing. He was in a motorcycle accident but the rest was premature information.

He was injured but no charges/arrest yet and they may not come at all.

I had a friend who was not as lucky, unfortunately. Alcohol involved; had a helmet and still didn't survive. Just dumb.

Reports coming out this morning saying he was now indeed arrested but it is up to the DA if they are going to press charges or not and they haven't yet.

Havner was arrested for DUI, DA to decide on charges

By Greg A. Bedard of the Journal Sentinel

March 16, 2010 11:12 a.m. |(4) Comments

Green Bay - A California Highway Patrol officer confirmed Tuesday that Green Bay Packers tight end Spencer Havner was arrested Saturday morning for driving his motorcycle under the influence of alcohol.

But whether Havner faces those charges will be determined by the Nevada County (Calif.) District Attorney's office.

“It’s their call whether or not to file charges,” Officer Heather Blancarte said. “We’re filing charges as the CHP, but the DA will look over the report to see if they have enough evidence to file charges. That’s how it always works with DUIs.”

According to Blancarte, this is what happened early in the morning of Saturday, March 13:

* Havner was riding his motorcycle eastbound on Woods Ravine in an unincorporated area of Nevada County. He made an unsafe turn and movement, which caused him to lose control of his bike and he was ejected;

* Havner received "major" injuries;

* He was taken to the hospital by private party;

* CHP got the call from the hospital -- it is called in all injury accidents -- and Havner was contacted at the hospital, where he was tested for driving under the influence. He was subsequently arrested for DUI;

* Havner was then released to the care of Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital in Grass Valley.

* Blood-alcohol level is not releasable at this time.

* Once the report is completed, it will be forwarded to the district attorney’s office.

Martin Humenik, one of Havner's agents, released the following statement late last night:

"Spencer suffered only minor injuries this weekend in an accident, including a broken scapula, but he should be fully recovered in short order. Despite unfounded media reports to the contrary, he has not been charged criminally with driving under the influence or alcohol or any other substance."

Humenik it technically correct, Havner hasn't been charged criminally. But he was arrested after police tested him for DUI.

Looks like they are going to charge him with a misdemeanor.

Highway Patrol Will Seek Misdemeanor Charges Against Havner
The California Highway Patrol will seek misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence and driving with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08 percent against Green Bay Packers tight end Spencer Havner, an official told the Press-Gazette's Mike Hoeft this morning.

Havner was injured in a motorcycle accident around 2:45 a.m. Saturday in his hometown of Grass Valley, Calif. He was found to be under the influence and was arrested at the hospital, the CHP said.

Heather Blancarte, public information officer for the CHP’s Grass Valley office, said Havner was not taken to jail because of his injuries. Charges will be referred to the Nevada County District Attorney’s office for prosecution, she said.

I found an answer to my question, looks like the injuries aren't anything serious.

http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcnorth/post/_/id/10834/black-and-blue-all-over-havner-fractures-scapula

Green Bay tight end/linebacker/special-teams ace Spencer Havner fractured his scapula during a weekend motorcycle accident, his agent confirmed to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and Green Bay Press-Gazette. But agent Mark Humenik denied a report that Havner was also charged with driving under the influence in connection with the accident.

Here's Humenik's full statement: "Spencer Havner suffered only minor injuries this weekend in an accident, including a broken scapula, but he should be fully recovered in short order. Despite unfounded media reports to the contrary, he has not been charged criminally with driving under the influence of alcohol or any other substance."

A broken scapula is a minor injury only in the sense that Havner has plenty of time to recover before training camp starts. It often takes up to two months to recover from.

We'll keep you updated.

Knowing Goodell, he will be suspended for 15 games.
