OT | Urban (Meyer) Warfare

Post#1 » by MikeIsGood » Thu Mar 25, 2010 9:05 pm

I'm not sure I need to recap what happened at this point, but here it is anyways:

*Florida WR Deonte Thompson makes comments that he'll be happy to play with a 'real quarterback' that properly spreads the ball around, with Brantley taking over for graduated Tim Tebow.

*Orlando Sentinel writer writes about this in his blog, which you can read here. Nothing to it, right? Just reporting news out of spring camp.

*Urban Meyer confronted said reporter after Gators' practice on Wednesday. You can read about it and watch it here. He threatened to remove the Orlando Sentinel permanently from attending Gators' practices, and basically said that if he were Thompson's father that he'd be throwing down with the guy right then.

Now, thankfully, Page 2 took this story and ran with it. You can see the whole thing here. But the big thing is this image, which mock-outlines new rules for the media issued by Urban Meyer and the Gators...

One thing I caught this morning is the version of the story that appeared on the writer's blog isn't the original. The first version did take the slant as Thompson ripping Tebow for not being a real QB. However, after the article went viral in just a few hours the author went back to make it more neutral and remove the slant.

That's interesting. Hadn't heard that, and I'm surprised I hadn't seen it mentioned by ESPN considering how much love they usually send Florida's way.
