Texans Board 2009 NFL Draft Prospect Dicussion Thread

I figured we could add more talk to the Texans board and dicuss the draft prospects for the upcoming draft.

Most likely we will pick 15th.

It would be nice if you had threw out a few prospects, lol.

Sure thing.

We will pick at 15. So the players I would like to see as a Texan, is Safeties Taylor Mays (USC), William Moore (Missouri), and defensive ends Michael Johnson (GT) and Everette Brown. Now I am sure Mays and maybe Johnson will be off the board when we pick, so that leaves Brown and Moore available. Out of those 2 I would much rather draft Brown because I feel he has the most upside of the 2. He has good speed off the edge and has a knack for getting at the QB. Then we could go in round 2 and draft Safety Patrick Chung of Oregon if he is available.

I need to do a little homework, but safety wouldn't be a bad pick. Actually any impact player on defense wouldn't be no matter the position. We need another pass rusher which could be on the line or from the LB position and possibly a corner as well.

As far as positions go, we should and I believe we will go all defense in the draft. Priority #1 for the offseason is to resign Dunta Robinson.
Looking around at a few mock drafts, some think Orakpo may fall to us, if so a DE to play on the other side of Mario that would be an excellent pass rusher would definitely give us that push on the line we need.
If Orakpo isn't there, which is very likely, Taylor Mays is an amazing safety and most mocks I looked at put him falling past us. At 6'3'' 227lbs, the guy hits like a mack truck. However there has been a found mocks I looked at that have him going around #10, alot depends on who is actually coming out.

I like Taylor Mays alot. We need a good safety to help out Robinson. But if they are is a stud at DE then Im confident the Texans would go for that first. Mario needs help too.

Well...no Taylor Mays. He is going back to USC. Very possible he wouldn't have slid to 15 anyways if he would have impressed at the combine with his rare blend of size and speed like I suspect he would have.

May as well use this to discuss free agency as well.

Any thoughts on who we should/will go after? I see Sage is gone for another draft pick. Anyone else want to see us go after Bertrand Berry or Shaun Rogers? I'm pretty confident about the offensive side of the ball so I'd like to see us improve the defensive line, and I expect we'll be drafting mostly defensive players.

Also isn't Owen a restricted FA? We definitely need to keep him here. God I wish football would start now instead of a long summer of terrible baseball.
We watched the tragedy unfold. We did as we were told, we bought and sold. It was the greatest show on Earth...but then it was over.
