OT - NFL Draft

Post#1 » by Mr. E » Thu Apr 22, 2010 5:48 pm

I hate having the first round on Thursday night.

Anyone paying attention to this? I think that this is the first year since we got football back that I haven't been paying attention to the draft. I have no idea what the Texans may do, or who they may be targetting.

As usual, I do see the name of a UT player being thrown around in Earl Thomas. Seems like we can't have a draft unless you have half the fanbase calling for the Longhorn!

Just a reminder to all you Houston Texans fans that the NFL draft is at 7:30 pm on ESPN. Let's get some activity in the Texans board!

I'm looking at a lot of mocks right now, and they keep mentioning the running back, Ryan Matthews.

Earl Thomas is also getting some press.

Is there any interest in Taylor Mays from USC?

A friend of mine from San Diego says he thinks Mays is going to be a complete stud in the NFL, but I have not really seen him play.

I think they should go defense first and find a RB later in the draft(they have 8 picks and it's a deep draft).

Improving the defense is the biggest priority IMO because I think Slaton will bounce back next year and Foster looked decent as well. They need more help in the secondary than in the running game I think.

Also Thomas will be long gone by the time we pick, and Matthews probably will be too.

Idk if we should go RB in the first round. I'm confident that Slaton will bounce back this year and are we bring back that one cat? As I sip my crown n sunkist i;m drawing a blank. I think he wore #37. Not Moats or that other sack of **** Brown. Ya'll know who I am talking back.

Anyways, I wanted us to get Taylor Mays last year but him going back to school worked out GREAT for us! Cushing is sick!

Anyways, with Dunta gone I think the secondary is far more a position of need than RB is.

I say go for Mays.

And I was watching ESPN and I saw "Neil Rackers" under key additions for Houston. When did that happen? Anyways, does that mean we can sing "Na-Na-Na-Na-Na" to Kris Brown sorry ass?

You're thinking of Foster.

As I said already, I agree the secondary is our #1 priority. Hopefully Mays will still be there, if he's as good as I keep hearing he is. If we can get another player that can have an impact like Cushing, oh my...

They brought in Rackers to compete for the job, which is the first time Kris Brown has ever had to compete for the job here in Houston I believe. Good idea. Up until this last year, Brown was actually decent. He really screwed us this year though, so I'm glad to see some competition at that position.

Also, Crown and Sunkist? EWW!

;)

^^^Foster! Yeah that's right! Appreciate that...

Rackers was money last season. Only FG he missed was dat last chip shot from 30 some odd yards in the Packers game.

If Kris Brown stays, I'm afraid he's going to have the Brad Lidge effect. Actually I know he will. Did you know that we DIDN'T draft Brown? Funny cause I thought we did. You know that bum was cut by the Steelers back in the day? You know why? I researched this ya know... He missed FOUR EXTRA POINTS in a ROW in single game. He's a LOSER.

I was tellin my barber about this. If we are trying to put together a winning organization then we need to stop bringing in all these bums and losers and bring in some WINNERS!!!!

David Carr was a loser. Ahmed Green was just old. Chris Brown is a defiante loser and if not already, then Kris Brown is a LOSER!! He's finished in Houston. He's lost his confidence and the fans gave up on him too and he knows. He will never be the same player he was before. I am sure he was a loser back then too. He just wasn't exposed cause the team was a joke and nothing to play for.

It pains me to say it, but Dunta is a loser too.

For the record, Crown and Sunkist isnt terrible. Definable not a #1 choice. However, I was not fixin to drive all the way to the convenient store just to get a coke. I did enough driving today as is.

I'm not too familiar with him, but the more I read about him the more optimistic I am about the pick. I'm guessing they were targeting Matthews first but once he went to SD they felt like Jackson was the best available CB.

It sucks we have to wait until tomorrow for the next pick. I think I liked it better when it was an all day event.

Draft experts say Kareem is the most NFL ready CB in the draft RIGHT NOW. so i like the pick alot since its playoffs or bust.

Physical, aggressive CB who is excellent in man-to-man coverage and played in an NFL style defense under Nick Saban at Bama.

Great pick.

is it too early to talk about 2011 draft lol?

Needs: (via draft or free agency)

DT - Akoye 10th overall pick is a bust. Akoye and Cody (our starting DT's) through 8 games combine for 1 sack. We definitely need a beast at that position. It would be MAJOR help. It would help out Mario and Atontio Smith on the edges and it will help out the pass game for our young secondary. It will also push our veterans akoye and cody.

DB - Adding another young DB to our secondary might not be the smartest move but it is definitely a position that needs to be addressed. Glover in his 2nd season is a decent 2nd corner. He still needs to improve but he is a decent 2nd corner. Kareem Jackson is only a rookie and he made a lot of mistakes this season but we also saw flashes here and there. I think he can develop into a solid corner. Whether he develops into great one well just have to see. Of course if we trade up for a CB like Patrick Peterson then yeah we get a corner (or just get raiders asomugha lol). But i was looking more along the lines of safety. Pollard has been a good addition to our defense but he is more of a big hitter and run stopper. he definitely makes alot of coverage mistake. Wilson is a solid veteran but we need a ball hawk at FS that can make plays... deflect passes, make interceptions, and cause turnovers and prevent long balls. Ed Reed, Palumalo, healthy Bob Sanders, these guys make such a HUGE impact on their defenses. i know we can't just pick one up of that calliber out the blue but hey...

WR - we really, really, really need a legit WR alongside Andre Johnson. its starting to get ridiculous on the wr paired up with AJ over the years. we have kevin walter than can't beat any corner on his routes and he have jacoby jones whos bobbles every pass thrown at him. we have a nice collection of TE, please get Andre Johnson some help on the other side.

I think those are the top 3 needs. On offense the O-line has probably been the best we have ever had even though we had some struggles, we have more pressing needs. we got our QB and our beast WR of course and finally a RB, back up RB Ward is solid and FB Vonta Leach is good.

On defense im good with williams and smith on the ends. Ryan and Cushing are great linebackers but we need some depht in that position. Other than that i think all the other positions are upgradable. CB - jackson and glover are young and they have room to develop but if an upgrade at corner comes along i wouldn't be opposed to it. FS wilson is decent but he's definitely expendable. i know houston has grown to like pollard but imo he's expendable if a beast at SS is availabe, as good as pollard has been for our defense, it doesn't excuse the fact he has a tendency to be a liability on coverage.
