Tigers trade Mike Maroth to the Cards

Post#1 » by bigboy1234 » Fri Jun 22, 2007 6:01 pm

Seeking to bolster their rotation, the Cardinals have acquired left-handed pitcher Mike Maroth from the Tigers, FOXSports.com has learned.

The trade is the Tigers' second in three days as they prepare for the returns of left-handers Kenny Rogers and Nate Robertson from the disabled list. On Wednesday, Detroit sent left-hander Wil Ledezma to the Braves for left-hander Macay McBride, in part because McBride can be sent to the minors without restriction while Ledezma would need to clear waivers before getting demoted.

The Cardinals have also been actively dealing this week. Maroth becomes the second pitcher St. Louis has added, after they signed right-hander Tomo Ohka to a minor-league contract on Tuesday.

Maroth really isn't that good, if the Cards gave up anything resembling a top 15 prospect I will be pretty upset.

I think the goal of the Cards is to stock up on as many crap pitchers as possible.

Hey, look at it this way. He's going from the AL to the NL.

I wonder who we are giving up for Maroth.

Do we have enough mediocre starters yet to install the piggyback rotation? Four innings is usually all we see from these guys anyway...

Maybe he can hit. :(

Good record this year: 5-2 in 13 starts. Bad ERA, 5.06 this season.

A career record in six years in the bigs of 50-62.

Maroth's career stats

The year he lost TWENTY-ONE games, the Tigers went 43-119. Can't really hold that record against poor ol' Mike.

An ERA consistently in the 4s, dipping into the 5s on occasion.

He'll fit right in. :P

Kid has more walks than strikeouts this year.

I seriously would have rather signed John Thomson who the Jays also recently released. (I think John is better than Tomo too.)

That may be true, but aslong as you have Dave Duncan there is still a chance he can help make them pitch a little better.
