But I can see why the Yankees gave Moose the start today... he ran off a few good starts before the Tigers & Angels games. And he's got a track record. But It backfired.

I don't think Clippard or Desalvo is any better than Mussina... Igawa might be though.

then they should have thrown igawa out there. Right now mussina can't get pro hitters out. It is sad, but reality..

This is the end of the line for has-been Mussina. It's time to get him out of the rotation.

BTW, 7-0 now.

Honestly, whenever our prospects have come up they haven't disappointed. Hughes has has some bad luck but overall has been very impressive. Wang, Cano, Melky, Joba, Edwar, Phillips all are homegrown players that have been huge contributors this year. I say toss Kennedy out there and see if he can give us a quality start in Mussina's rotation spot later this week.

Kennedy's already over the 140 inning mark; i'd have to imagine he's close to his innings limit. Realistically, I don't think we could bring him up for more than a spot start. So we're basically going to have to bring in Igawa/Karstens/another undesirable option and hope for the best.

so we all agree we were within 4 games of the sox and fell apart. So now this is strictly a wild card race, beating the sox this week really is more important to the wildcard race. The division race is in the bag...

I know the yankees are losing, but this is really sad watching Moose decline like this. He has had a great career, and a great yankee career. I don't doubt for a second he is trying, he just doesn't have it anymore.

It is a shame that we might have just watched his last start.

:-? I hope not. I still want to see what he has next year.

Hopefully he goes right to the DL after this start.

I agree, but he should have been sat down and rested a while ago, they sent him out there, start after start and to our peril...... I hate this for mussina, he has been a hell of a pitcher for us, but maybe he is injured?

I think he has to be injured. Last year his fastball was hitting 91. This year he couldn't get it much past 89. Which is ok, considering he did age and that could be seen as a natural drop off. However, the last few games he wasn't really getting much past 85-86. This is the time when a starting pitcher's arm should be strongest. Add to that, his arm angle dropping (same thing Igawa does) and it causes problems because his curve has no bite. I don't know what is going on with him today because I'm not watching the game and he's out now anyway. -Jitpal

I just don't see where he fits with the team next year. Joba and Kennedy both seem to be slated in the rotation next year, Hughes and Wang obviously aren't going anywhere, and Pettitte is pitching well enough to secure the last spot. I wish Mussina the best but I can't see the Yankees gambling on him making a recovery. If he wants to keep going, odds are pretty good it'll be somewhere else. :(

I don't think Kennedy or Joba will be in the rotation to start the year... Igawa and Mussina will. If they are ineffective, Joba and Kennedy will then enter the rotation.

Joba is a lock for the rotation next year (to start the year). They aren't wasting him in the bullpen, being a setup guy.

Kennedy may start the year in the minors.
