2015 Houston Texas Offseason Thread

Good to see the team finish with a winning record and exceeding expectations but the question still remains how they would go about with bringing in a new QB. Some QBs out there like RG3 might be available depending on if you want to take a gamble on them.
Not sure if a good QB is available in the draft at #16, Winston and Marriotta are likely locks to go 1 & 2. After that you might get lucky if one of Prescott, Hundley or Petty works out but I'm not very hopeful there.
There's also the issue of whether or not to bring back Dre. I think the current team with good QB play can get to the playoffs and more as long as Watt is around, Cushing is healthy and Clowney improves. The mocks have them taking a corner in the first round, which would be a good addition if he works out.
Still Watt alone makes this team relevant going forward.

My big question is what to do about Ryan Mallet.
If they are sticking with him then that call needs to be made early. And if they do stick with him then it needs to be clear that he will be the planned starter.
In the draft I have no idea where they may go. Probably best player available regardless of position.

From what limited I saw of him he doesn't seem like someone you would bank on. Good back up but not starter material. I'm still hoping one of the veteran QBs becomes available that the Texans can jump on. I actually won't mind Sanchez at all.

Mallett reportedly re-signed.
Bryan Hoyer added.
It's going to be really strange to see a Texans team without Andre Johnson & Chris Meyers.

Mallett & Hoyer is not exactly inspiring but I'd take that over what was around the past couple seasons. Better get a good WR in draft.

Good to see they locked up Kareem, and though I never thought I'd actually be saying this, good to see they re-signed Newton as well. Hopefully his improved play last season wasn't a fluke.
Our QB situation still sucks but I am holding out hope Mallett can actually be worth a damn, and I'd rather see him and Hoyer/Savage then another year of Galifitzpatrick...I think.
So, WR with the 1st pick?

So far on the QB front:
Mallett resigns for 2 years, 7M
Hoyer signs for 2 years, 10M
Keenum to St. Louis for a 7th round pick
Fitzpatrick to NY Jets for a conditional future pick
Not a lot of risk for the two QB's we are going into the season with. I'm assuming that they'll keep Savage on as the third QB.
Good to get at least something for the guys going out. Now let's see if BOB can do a better job drafting than Rick Smith.
I am, of course, assuming that BOB is really running the show now.

I'm surprised they got anything for Keenum. Other than that Dre signs with Colts for 3/$21 mil. Need some receivers unless Watt is to moonlight as the tightend fulltime.

Rahim Moore signed:

Same guy who gave up the Jacoby Jones TD in the playoffs in 2012, lol. Almost forgot about that.
I hope they are still going to re-sign Lewis as well though. I thought he played well last year and the more depth in the secondary the better.

Welcome to Houston Vince Wilfork & Cecil Shorts!
man, if we could see Clowney come back then a front line of Watt, JD & Wilfork could mess up some O-Lines!

I am quite pleased with the moves they have made so far this offseason. Hopefully Wilfork doesn't go Ed Reed on us, but I think he still has some left in the tank and he can hopefully teach Nix a ton and help his development as well. If he's healthy he should help out against the run tremendously and take a lot of pressure off Mr. Watt up front.
I like the addition of Shorts(that sounds funny for some reason), but I'd still like to see them grab a WR in the first couple rounds. Maybe best available linebacker in the first(ILB is an area of need with Cushing looking pretty much done last year) and WR in the second.
Anyways, good offseason so far. Now let's just hope they have a solid draft, no more wasted mid-round picks please.

Oh, also, Schaub was released by Oakland. His career sure went to hell pretty damn quickly.

I hope shorts doesn't keep us from drafting a wr in the first 3 rounds...I really want to come away with a lb wr and corner in the first 4 rounds
That said I like the shorts wilfork and moore signings

The Ravens just love former Texans players, don't they?

Schaub didn't realize Kubiak isn't there anymore, poor guy.

The Texans signed Nate Washington today? Interesting. I still want them to draft a WR in the first couple rounds, but that's a nice veteran addition to the team.

http://scores.espn.go.com/nfl/team/_/na ... ton-texansI like that they picked up a corner 1st, added a linebacker and a pair of receivers. I think they had a pretty solid draft, although the South is now loaded with top 5 QB picks: Luck, Bortles, Mariota.... not Hoyer...

Not bad. He was solid last year and has been durable so far in his young career(unlike that other OLB we drafted) so good deal.
