Your 2016 Houston Texans Draft Class

Post#1 » by Mr. E » Fri Apr 29, 2016 2:35 am

Round One, Pick 21

Will Fuller, WR - Notre Dame http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/2082827/will-fuller

Sounds like the dude is fast, but may drop a lot of balls.

Round Two, Pick 51 (traded up)

Nick Martin, C - Notre Dame http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1893204/nick-martin

Back-to-back Domers! Listed as the second best Center in the draft and likely a starter from Day 1. I like that they are putting some help around Osweiler so far in this draft.

Round Three, Pick 85

Braxton Miller, WR - Ohio State http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1824414/braxton-miller

Wow! The Texans are all about the offense this off-season! Wasn't there talk about this guy as a first or second round pick a while back? Looks like the Texans will have a young, and hopefully solid receiving corps!

Round Four, Pick 119

Tyler Ervin, RB - San Jose State

Not sure what to make of this pick. They had other areas of need. Is this guy better than an undrafted RB possibility? Especially with Miller & Blue on the roster taking up most of the plays.

Round Five, Pick 159

KJ Dillon, SS - West Virginia

Now this is a pick that I really like! Safety was one of the big needs for an already strong defense. I hope that this guy can challenge for some playing time early on.

Round Five, Pick 166

DJ Reader, DT - Clemson

Another solid defensive pick in the mid-rounds! Good to see the Texans being aggressive to get the guys that they wanted.

They must really be in love with his speed to move up a spot and grab him. Let's hope he lives up to that.

Is it also a sign they are not high on Strong(sorry, had to do it) being the #2 WR?

I don't think that they ever saw Strong as any more than a third receiver.

I still wish that they would have taken a big Tight End, but hopefully that can still happen.

It is good to see them trying to shore up the offense for Osweiler.

Man I love this pick. Texans now have Hopkins, Strong, Fuller at wideouts.... that's an amazing reversal of history and ideally a guy who can get them the ball.

I still want to see a QB drafted as insurance/competition for Osweiler.

I think they like Strong and will move these guys around. Strong could be a beast in the slot, for example. Plus, Fuller will be a rookie and all these guys will get snaps.

But man, what a passing attack Houston will now have.

Sorry about missing out on your boy Henry, Mr. E.

I didn't think he would fall to us but I was still hoping he might.

Nick Martin, C from Notre Dame. I like this pick. It sounds like he could step right in as the starting Center on that O-Line. They have really been focusing on improving the offense this offseason. If they can shore that up along with a top flight defense then things are looking up!

I rather like this pick.

He is a center who can also play both guard spots? That's what I was hoping for in regard to depth/versatility on the OL.

Now I hope they shift their focus to the DL, and preferably without trading more picks away to do so.

All in on the offense so far.

I know, right? :o

The Texans ended up with the third ranked defense last season. They still need to make some moves there; but the way that they've been addressing the Texans offense this off-season is like nothing I've ever seen before!

I don't know how to embed Tweets (which is a sorry reflection on me as a mod!), but the reaction from DeAndre Hopkins to this Texans draft was: "Ain't no more double teams baby!"

No sir, Nuke. No more, indeed!

Wow Miller pick makes theTexans loaded at wideout. I love the OL pick too.

I'm hoping to see a linebacker in here somewhere.

So I am pretty excited about this draft.

I really like the D.J. Reader pick, that guy looks like he is going to be a beast at NT. Having him play behind/learn from Wilfork should be great for his development. Hopefully he can keep the weight under control though, he's a big boy!

I think the Miller pick is probably the most exciting. With him and the speed that Fuller brings, combined with Hopkins and Strong, I don't think we've ever had a WR corp with so much potential for big plays.

Ervin looks to be, at minimum, a great option in the return game and as a 3rd down back who can actually catch. I am not much of an Alfred Blue fan, so the idea of a Miller/Hunt/Ervin backfield is compelling to me, though I don't think Blue will be going anywhere. We also still have Grimes and Hilliard on the roster, so it will be interesting to see how the RB situation plays out.

If nothing else, these guys should really help out on special teams. I think we say this every year, but it's so frustrating watching us get burned in the return game and not ever breaking off any big plays of our own.

Right now I'm thinking that this could be one of the Texans best drafts in franchise history. It all seemed so unlike them.

Of course we have to wait and see how they all pan out, but this is a very promising group. Still upset that they didn't address TE, but I understand that they brought in an undrafted guy from California who could become a good rotation player for that position.

Two WR, Fuller seems like he is going to need attention from opposition defences especially with the speed to be a long ball threat. Hopkins loved this draft.

And they shored up the O-Line with Martin. Between that and getting Brown back that should give Osweiler some nice protection. Plus, with Miller they should have a nice run game to keep defenses honest.

I'm really looking forward to next season!

Same here, I'm cautiously optimistic on osweiler but I love how aggressive we have been about getting our offense sorted. It will be fun feeling like we are a chance to win by scoring and not just shutting down the opposition.
