This team pretty much hated Carr for the job security he got. It's all explained in this article I wrote on Sunday:
Shortly after completing a trade for former Falcons QB Matt Schaub, the Texans admitted the mistake of drafting David Carr first overall in the 2002 by releasing the former face of the franchise. Since then, Carr has visited the Seahawks, Dolphins, and the Raiders. Today, David Carr came back to Houston and re-signed with the Texans. Says David Carr "Those places just didn't seem to be the right fit. I've been in Houston my whole career and I don't think I'll be able to move my whole life to another city where I may only stay for a year. I want stability in my life and I think that it's best for myself and my family to come back to Houston, even if it means I'm a backup. With the help of God, I think I can help get this team to the playoffs and the Super Bowl, hopefully in the next few years, in any way that I can" Carr, a former Fresno State Bulldog, started for most of the Texans games since 2002 and was briefly benched in 2006. His replacement, Matt Schaub, was signed to a $48 million dollar year and is expected to have the same job security David Carr previously had. "Oh, it was great. I could do anything I wanted short of murder and rape and I would still start the very next game. Before the Oakland game, I was kidding around with [backup QB] Quinton Porter and he said "I bet if you throw for negative yards, you won't get benched." We laughed it off, but when I took the first snap, I thought "hey, why not, it's worth a shot." That incident may have been the straw that broke the camel's back, but backup QB Sage Rosenfels was on IR, so as David thought, he would not get benched.
When we called Kubiak for comments, he could not be reached, but Offensive Coordinator Kyle Shannahan offered the following comments: "lol, Carr isn't that bad of a QB. I was all like "Yo, Dave, wanna come back" and he was all "duuuude, fo sho!"" Terms of the deal are undisclosed, but it has been revealed that it is a multi-year deal.
I'm sorry I haven't been funny. I am not a comedian. I am Lenny Bruce.
