What is it going to take for Gary Kubiak to keep his job after this season?

A winning season.
We watched the tragedy unfold. We did as we were told, we bought and sold. It was the greatest show on Earth...but then it was over.

So 9-7 and he's safe? What about a third 8-8? It's not a winning season but it's not a losing season either.

Re: Kubiak
Hard to say. I think after McNair saying "great coaches don't go 8-8", he might be in a bit of trouble if we don't do better this season. I think the team has to continue to show signs of improving and if they get off to a slow start again this season, he will have a lot of pressure on him.
Personally I like Kubiak and I think even another 8-8 season is enough to keep him around, but if we take a step back I could see him gone. It's time for the Texans to stop talking about having their first winning season(let alone making the playoffs) and go out and do it.
Granted, maybe not having a hurricane disrupt the start of the season, and tons of key injuries(hopefully we have enough depth to overcome that this year), and a bit easier schedule could help.

Not a very good start to avoiding any flames being added to Mr. Kubiak's seat.
Hey isn't Bill Cowher available? I bet he would love to coach again next season.

This season looks to be a make or break for Kubiak. If the team isn't able to produce a good season this time around. Kubiak maybe lookin for an assisntant job next season. Would would be the potential next coach for the job outside of wishful thinking Bill Cowher?

Re: Kubiak
Mike Shanahan perhaps? His son is already the OC for the Texans(although I expect him to be gone after this season along with Kubiak if they don't put together a great season).
I would love, LOVE, Tony Dungy as well, though I doubt he'd come back to coaching so soon, if ever.
Jon Gruden? Herm Edwards(ugh)? Perhaps someone becomes available if their team struggles this season, like a Norv Turner(ehhh) or Wade Phillips?
It's too early to really think about that anyways, I just hope they can get back on track after last week's utter failure.

How long is Bill Parcell's contract with Miami? Would Bill Cowher be willing to return to coaching? Either one of those guys would be great at lighting a fire under this team.

Next coach could be an upcoming assistant coach you never expected.
