Week Three: Houston vs. Jacksonville

Post#1 » by Mr. E » Thu Sep 24, 2009 3:53 pm

Jacksonville comes to Houston for Week 3.

Houston is 1-1, coming off of a dramatic win over the Titans.

Jacksonville is 0-2, coming off of a drubbing by the offense of the Cardinals.

This is another important early-season divisional game for the Texans, but the defense needs to remember what day the game is being played. Mario, DeMeco and Cushing have all had good moments, but if Chris Johnson ran roughshod over the Texans then Maurice Jones-Drew has to be licking his chops for a chance at this defense.

Keys for the Texans on offense:

* Maintain the intensity of Week 2.
* Good ball management (no turnovers!).
* Kasey Studdard stepping up for our fallen Iron Man, Chester Pitts, on a full-time basis.

Keys for the Texans on defense:

* Be aware of where the very fast players on the other team are lined up!
* Do not get caught napping, or risk getting carved up.
* Cushing and DeMeco will be the key to stopping Jones-Drew.
* Someone has to help Mario put pressure on the quarterback
* Dunta's got to prove that he's worth what he believes he is

My prediction is a Texans victory by a two touchdown margin...but this game has so much potential for letdown that I wouldn't put money on it.

This game is all about "Can the Texans stop the run?" because if we can't then Jacksonville is going to be a VERY tough game.

If we get the Texans defense we saw for most of the 4th quarter last week we should be good.

If quarters 1-3 of last week show up then we could be in trouble...

That and I don't want any more plays like the one where nobody was covering Chris Johnson. That was a particularly embarrassing moment.

Don't be so harsh. Anyone could have been fooled by that play.

Except the fans, the announcers, the viewers, some blind guy named Steve, a kid who hasn't been born yet and yes...the chupacabra.

It was kind of like a wildcat formation or the statue of liberty or a flea flicker but insead of using the trick play they did a regular formation and passed it to a relatively unknown player who up to that poin hadn't done much, other than the two other tuchdowns he had laready scored.

On another note is it just me or has this thread become a two person conversation?

Yeah, let's see if we can find some more Texans fans.

The Texans better not blow this game. They usually play the Jags well. Can our defense go one week without giving up a monster play?

I don't really have much to add that hasn't been said already so I will just say GO TEXANS!

I'm really hoping to see Slaton break out this weekend, especially because I am taking a chance on starting him in my fantasy league. Don't let me down Steve!

It sounds like Kevin Walter will be playing tomorrow. I feel much better with him as our #2 over Fumble Jones.

And I don't want to come off as a big Fumble Jones hater - I'm really not, and he did his bit to help us win last week; but he needs some of that stuff Andre Johnson is pitching in that commercial of his. Maybe they can discuss it over a hoagie.

To be fair to him, he did catch well, he only had one drop, half as many as AJ.

I don't think Kevin Walter will have much of an impact. He didn't practice on Wednesday. I'm hoping Slaton shows up, but if not I'm definitely trading for him.

Yeah, I'm not being fair to Fum....Jacoby. I try to make a point not to harp on our guys, and the season is young. Hopefully he lives up to the expectations this season.

(I do want him to get some of those sticky gloves, tho!)

Look at Jacoby hold onto that ball!!! :D

Seriously - he was not letting go of that after he hit the ground. He had that thing in a bear hug!

Cushing is a freaking beast!

Kevin Walter is Mr. Consistant.

Andre Johnson...man, I think that hit hurt the defender more than it hurt him!

HEY GUYS, DID THE TEXANS WIN? HEHE.

Ugh. Worst defense in the history of the NFL? Possibly.

Leave me alone! I'm still in denial!

I choose to believe the fantasy that we have a respectable football team.
