Well, if there's ever a stadium that will mask his fly-ball tendencies...

Plus, the Eggo has a large Japanese population. If anything, it'll put butts in the seats.

He's going to need those (Please Use More Appropriate Word) looking goggles in sunny California.

As much as I hate how big of a waste of money he was....I wish Kei the best of luck in San Diego.

You guys realize tons of players are claimed, and most never change teams. Right?

Maybe the yankees will trade him and get either Cedric Hunter or Cesar Carillo (wishful thinking, I know.)

Guess I'll have to return my "Bye-Bye Kei" banners to the party store.

Dammit!

The Padres don't exactly need pitching

We'd rather keep Igawa unless the Padres give us something real good.

Correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't Igawa been awful in the bigs and you want something "real good" for him.

Would Peavy suffice? Maybe the Padres could add Adrian Gonzalez?

If you're expecting anything other than the team taking on his remaining salary and giving you a crap prospect or mediocre reliever, you will be disappointed in the Yankees return if he is ever dealt. The guy sucks.

That said, it isn't all that dumb of a move by the Padres. Like BBJ said, if anywhere can cover his fly ball and HR tendencies, it would be playing in the NL and Petco. Still doubt he'd be anything more than a league average pitcher, even there.

Also, if I was the Yankees, I'd just give them Igawa. I don't see any real upside in him that would make him worth the $4M (or is it $5M--I know he got $20M...just don't remember if it was 4 or 5 years) per year he gets. Go put that $4M per year into a quality setup man in the off-season.

Well continue to pay him more than he's worth to suck then.

No, they'd like to receive something good in return but make no mistake about it, the Yankees have no expectation of getting back top tier prospects for Kei "I wear a meeeaaaaan dark pair of shades" Igawa.

No, I never said I want Peavy. What I said is that it's pointless to sell low on this guy. His value is at its lowest point. When you sell low, you end up with the dead arm Estaban Loiza's of the world. Not interested in that.

Keep him, he has more value to us than the crap we would get back right now in a trade.

Then they shouldn't trade him. What's the point of getting back crap for Igawa? Igawa is cheap and he's under our control for the next 4 years. He has the upside to be an innings eating bottom of the rotation starter. Last time I checked, Jason Marquis got $24 million from the Cubs to do that.

$21 million.

And Marquis is proven to be a guy like that. Igawa hasn't proven anything at the major league level. Not that it really matters if they trade him, since they can't re-coup the huge $26 million posting fee they paid which is a lot more than his actual salary.

Didn't Marquis have a 6.02 ERA last year? What's your point exactly?

5 years, 20 million is a downright bargain for a guy who has the potential to be a #4 or #5 starter when the likes of Jason Marquis are making $7 million a year and Ted Lily is making $10 million a year.

You claim Igawa is a bargain because he's a 4th or 5th starter.

He has NEVER proven to be effective against major league hitters. He may never be effective. At this point, he's not a capable starter.

That one year was an abberation for Marquis. Since leaving the Braves, his ERA is as follows: 3.71, 4.13, 6.02, 4.18. He's a proven player, which is why he got that contract. He'll never be good, but he's an okay guy to fill out the rotation and you know what you'll get from him. Igawa is an unknown quantity, and all we've seen so far is how horrible he is.

And you're really trying to use Ted Lilly as an example of bad contracts? Give me a break, of all the FA pitchers last year, he's been the most effective.

And again, of course Igawa's salary is small, the Yankees paid an insane posting fee. Together it's $46 million for 5 years for a guy who may one day be able to be mediocre. The Yankees could've just moved Joba or Kennedy into the rotation, gotten better results and saved $46 million.
