Would Peavy suffice? Maybe the Padres could add Adrian Gonzalez?cmaff051 wrote:We'd rather keep Igawa unless the Padres give us something real good.

If you're expecting anything other than the team taking on his remaining salary and giving you a crap prospect or mediocre reliever, you will be disappointed in the Yankees return if he is ever dealt. The guy sucks.
That said, it isn't all that dumb of a move by the Padres. Like BBJ said, if anywhere can cover his fly ball and HR tendencies, it would be playing in the NL and Petco. Still doubt he'd be anything more than a league average pitcher, even there.
Also, if I was the Yankees, I'd just give them Igawa. I don't see any real upside in him that would make him worth the $4M (or is it $5M--I know he got $20M...just don't remember if it was 4 or 5 years) per year he gets. Go put that $4M per year into a quality setup man in the off-season.

No, they'd like to receive something good in return but make no mistake about it, the Yankees have no expectation of getting back top tier prospects for Kei "I wear a meeeaaaaan dark pair of shades" Igawa.

$21 million.
And Marquis is proven to be a guy like that. Igawa hasn't proven anything at the major league level. Not that it really matters if they trade him, since they can't re-coup the huge $26 million posting fee they paid which is a lot more than his actual salary.
cmaff051 wrote:Didn't Marquis have a 6.02 ERA last year? What's your point exactly?
5 years, 20 million is a downright bargain for a guy who has the potential to be a #4 or #5 starter when the likes of Jason Marquis are making $7 million a year and Ted Lily is making $10 million a year.
