Barry Zito for Dan Haren

Post#1 » by Bow2Yao11 » Fri Apr 13, 2007 1:52 am

Someone in my league just accepted the trade. I'm the one getting Haren. I really thought that he was going to reject the offer, what an idiot!

Not really an idiot the other guy is and not really a steal for you, if I had to pick I would probably take Zito although very close. You would have to be completely clueless to take mostly on what they've done this year.

zito's not chopped liver and he's got the league change to the NL in his favor, but i think haren's clearly the better pitcher. hes younger and is on the upswing. hes on the better team with a better bullpen, get more K's and walk like half the batters zito will.
they might have similar ERAs, but haren will be better across the board in just about everything else.

How hard of an adjustment is the NL? If it was the AL I would understand because there is a DH. Plus, the Giants don't look like they are going to contend anytime soon. They also have the oldest lineup in MLB.

IMO Zito will have the better year. Both reality and fantasy. Going to the NL for a pitcher is almost always a fantasy plus. He'll get the easy out with the pitchers will often times result in K's. Zito had a mediocre year last season but most think he'll rebound and in an even bigger way because of his move to the NL. It's always harder for the batter to adjust to the hitter when their new so that's another plus...

Haren's good don't get me wrong but I prefer Zito.

ok, from a numbers perspective in which categories will zito have the upper hand?
wins, maybe, cuz zito's got a rubber arm and will pitch 220+ innings. but his team sucks. A's >> giants. ERA maybe, cant really argue with that. i expect an ERA in maybe the 3.80 range. haren could easily shave points of his ERA as well cuz hes still getting better, whereas zito has peaked.
zito wont get K's or WHIP for sure though.
i think haren has 2 categories on lock whereas the other 2 could go either way. advantage haren.

Yes. Though I'd take Haren because of the potential for more wins.

I also say Zito is the better pitcher this year

That league change will work wonders

Haren is definitely going to be the better pitcher this year IMO, but not by a large margin.
