Colts Worried About Harrison, Covet Receiver
11th April, 2008 - 5:09 pm
NFL.com - The Colts appear to be worried about how much longer receiver Marvin Harrison can play and are looking to get their hands on another pass-catcher, according to the NFL Network.
Harrison underwent offseason surgery on his right knee that could cause him to miss the start of training camp. He missed eleven games for Indianapolis last season because of a left knee issue.
He'll turn 36 this summer.
I heard we've attended workouts of Michigan's Mario Manningham as well as LSU's Doucet. Colts probably will give Harrison one go this season, but if he's hurt, he could get the axe next offseason which would be really sad.

We all saw this coming but now that its close to happening its surreal. It'll be weird not seeing #88 catching TD's for the Colts.
The WR crop in this draft is pretty weak so I think we should address some other needs with our 2nd and 3rd rounders instead of going for a WR. Gonzo, Wayne and Clark are pretty good threats in the air and we managed OK w/o Marvin for most of last year.

I personally would go for James Hardy if he were available in the second round (I know he's not supposed to be), but past that only if one of the top receivers fell would I go there. That may be a little homeristic, but I remember how IU played before they passed the ball to Hardy and watched them a couple of games during which he was suspended...it wasn't pretty. He isn't the most talented receiver in the draft by far, but he is tall and you can't coach size. He'd be a great slot, giving Peyton an out over the middle on blitzes. Since we seem to be grooming Gonzales as a #2, the slot is really what we need filled. Ideally we'd be able to go Harrison-Wayne-Gonzales and use Hardy in the 4-wide sets, but I wouldn't be concerned going out with a lineup of Wayne-Gonzales-Hardy. I would really hope we didn't just let Dallas Clark continue to play slot because as good as he is there we don't have another tight end that's nearly that good and we have a couple of receivers that could fill the slot.

I'd love to get Hardy, but I don't think he'll be there by our second round pick. We'd probably have to trade up to the late first round...early second round territory.

Last I read on ESPN they were saying he'd go undrafted

I'm not sure what happened there, they predicted the same for Mario Manningham but said Tracy Porter would go in the 3rd. I think that's a little high for Tracy, but even if it's not there's no way he goes before Hardy. Somebody had their head screwed on backwards.
