JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- The Jacksonville Jaguars have released veteran safety Sergio Brown, parting ways with him a day before players report for the team's voluntary offseason conditioning program.

Brown started four games last season after signing a three-year contract worth $7 million in free agency. He was due to make $2.25 million in 2016, apparently too much for someone not in the mix for a starting spot.

Even with cap space to spare they still won't overpay.

Only 4 games though...a non starter shouldn't be making that kind of dough. Not with how our defense was manhandled last year. Especially the DBs.

But on the other hand, if our DE would've gotten to the QB more often, our young DBs wouldn't have that kind of pressure on them.

I figured his days were numbered after Gipson was signed. He was on the outside looking in with Gipson, Cyprien, Sample, and Evans all ahead of him on the depth chart.
